Yep they will have a mandate to keep this close... hopefully our fitness holds out and we can be efficient when we do get a chance.

Need to win this with high completion rate, Patty and Payne dominating the middle and Reynolds kicking game.

Would also like to see a real uptick in energy from the bench middles as well, feel like they've been a little slow to start the year.

They've only been needed for sub 40mins so far, so they should be able to front load their energy to dominate the opposition bench, but I've not been hugely impressed compared to what we know X and Jensen can bring.
I'm loathed to call it a mandate. To achieve that requires competence, even if it's biased.

The current crop don't have that level of competence in them. We're getting dudded because they basically all come from NSW, all hate us, and by sheer incompetence flog us with the whistle.

Papa and Horse Burger showed how it can be done .
Dolphins have been ordinary through the middle recently . Broncos should dominate .
Excited for the contest in a few match ups . Paix vs JMK , Katoa vs Reynolds Herbie Vs Kotoni and Hammer vs Reece .
A lot of those contests will be nullified in the wet sadly. Would be a great game in the dry.

Off a pass like Walsh threw Arthars against the Raiders ?
That was bad , very bad .
Nah, more just par for the course like every other game last year when he got bundled into touch. Has not done it this year though which is promising.

That disallowed try against the Riff last night was the worst call I've seen this year so far, both on field and bunker butchered it.
That's a nsw team getting reamed right there.
So it's just total incompetence as opposed to bias, which is just as concerning.

The standard of officiating is the lowest it's been in recnt memory. Anybody who isn't on V'Landy's payroll agrees with that.

Just letting you guys know that you will have to overcome the TAB boosted offer curse. They have raised the price of the Broncos to $3.50. Over the years they have done this and the strikerate on the boosted team losing is quite high so don't be surprised if the Dolphins win this game.

They dont do it for people to make free money.

It's just unlucky for us that the Cowboys/Dolphins/Titans are easy wins for most of the comp, but for us, it's the one single game per year they can see themselves getting up for and not playing like hot garbage.

Hence the usage of should... our forward pack, specifically our middles, should not be getting dominated.

They need to take shit personally and go with the mindset of dominating their opposite

I say mandate, because there was definite influence in the cows vs broncos games between 2015 - 17 by the refs for the games to end up that close... they're trying to build this rivalry up to the same level, Dolphins are coming in with no form so they probably won't want to let it blow out and will hold their hand

If they were mandating close games, then Leota's obvious try gets awarded last night and the game gets injured.

I think what you will find is that they are trying to agree with the on field ref's call as much as possible. There's a definite group of ref's who are mates, and if one is in the bunker they won't over rule the decision if they can get away with it.

I take your point. I just don't buy that they're trying to manage a close finish, since they couldn't organise their way out of a wet paper bag.

The Suncorp surface is in for a bit of a beating over the next couple of weeks. League, Union and soccer this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.. The another soccer game Thursday before we get the Tigers Friday and then another 3 days in a row the following week.

Soccer barely does anything to the surface, it's union that does damage.

The bunker has been reluctant to overturn the onfield decision for the last couple years now... guessing they don't want the bunker making the onfield ref look incorrect.

However it's more about which way the onfield ref leans on the 50/50 calls.

The media have been calling it bias now... subconscious/unconscious bias... which I think inherently sways a lot of decisions on the field.

I do think that their bias at the moment is taking the 'easy' decision as that is less likely to pop up on the back page of the paper.

Easy decisions that keep the ball with the team that's behind because they're already losing, so the ref's influence hasn't completely killed off the game... whether the call is right or not.

You can see it when they will call six again on kicked balls apparently being played at... errors on contested catches (or play on).. ignoring all those forward passes last night... or calling dropped balls in the ruck as an error or penalty pending which way is easier... even players getting dragged to touch and calling held or not held.

There's 50/50 calls everywhere in the game beyond penalties and 6 agains.

It's why the ref challenge is needed, however even then the bunker can be reluctant to overturn if the game calls for it... they'll look at for 5mins and then just go the blanket "player has knocked the ball on" even if the video says otherwise.

Which is what the bunker went with last night on the Leota try.

Current Brisbane forecast (1hr, ACCESS-C BN). This is the most granular model's projection - 1.5km resolution.

Torrential rain forecast during the game. Likely to change though. Next run due at 1:30pm.

Union is the hardest on the surface .
Scrums can tear up large patches of turf . The soccer folks really don`t like bumpy pitches .
But some of the new tech they have with turfing and using mesh matting to anchor the roots in . A full returf can be done and be played on with in weeks .
