POST GAME Round 4 - Storm vs Broncos

Do you think its them being fragile or that its a group of young players who have come into a basket case, badly managed roster with nobody to look to. In the past we had blokes like Petero around to help nurture them through games. This time around, the pie man got rid of anyone with any NRL know how and threw them all to the wolves. I said it in the comms thread, you just cant play so many kids in a losing side for over 2 years now and not expect it to have an impact.

We would be better bringing in blokes like Nat Neale and Luke Page for this year from ISC just for a bit of experience even though they have very little NRL experience.

I reckon that about nails it. The past has caught up. The side is clueless because there is no experienced leadership. This is going to be a long year. I just hope there is improvement really soon under Walters because tonight we went backwards. by a whole year

I'd agree with you if we had other options because some players clearly need a break. If we drop these blokes to ISC, who do we bring in? Haas once he got fatigued was terrible. Just arm grabbing and missing players. Pangai, just didnt stand up but no call for him to go to ISC? What we need to do is move players around. Haas, Carrigan, Lodge and Flegler prop rotation. TPJ to the back row for Glenn. Asiata to lock. Lets get the fatigue out of this pack and they will be a whole lot better. We have two players who arent centers playing center, sign Hoeter and play him there instead.

Nothing is going to change though until we get at least a decent 7 and 9. We have no direction on the field.
Pangai wasn’t great, but he also only played 30 minutes tonight. Haas played 70.

Perhaps it’s the Coach who has some explaining to do with those Bench rotations.

Enough with the attacks. Yes it's frustrating to watch your team lose but taking it out on randoms online isn't going to solve matters.

Some of you really need to consider your opinions and whether they're actually constructive.

This thread is a real dog's breakfast at the moment.
We’re just trying to be like our team.

Yeah who. Give me specifics. If I was coach I'd sign paps and Grant on a 1.2M each, but it's easier said than done.

Green. Lock Benji down for two years when we signed him. I'm sure with his pull he could have found someone, but he decided he could make Kodi/Milf work.

That said, Seibold completly gutted the club so it doesn't matter. But that's what Bennett did wrong - plus I think he was too easy on Milf, based on what I've read over the years.

Kevvie has always sucked with the bench. It’s the one actual thing a coach does these days and he’s shit at it. Just look what he did with QLD.

I agree on the Benji thing but I don't think he's what we needed as a game manager. Green is a good shout, but did he ever want to come down this way? We really don't know.

7's are probably the hardest position to sign in the game, and 9's too. Once a club has a good one, it's damn near impossible to pry them away and as we've seen, they are ridiculously hard to develop. You can count on one hand the top tier 9's, fullbacks and 7's. They're just a rare commodity so sometimes you just have to coach the shit sandwich and see where time takes you.

Tonight’s effort was inexcusable. If TPJ is a 30 minute player then I’m the Paddle Pop Lion.

He's been through more than this, come on.
Absolutely he has. But I was referring to his sporting career. If his coaching tenure ends in tears with the club he adores, then it will affect him for life. I admit that I am getting ahead of myself a bit here. I honestly think he'll eventually lead this side to the promised land or at least to a point of being competitive. It might take a decade though.

If we swap spines with the Storm we win so it all goes back to poor recruiting and poor contracts. Off the field we've been a rabble so it's no surprise that we're a rabble on the field. There are some good signs for the future but until we have a few dominant players in our spine (currently zero) our best hope is to scrape into the eight in 2022 and then recruit a few guns for better things in 2023.

Yep, it’s almost as though spending good money on top talent to play the two most vital positions in a modern football team might actually be a good idea.

I dont think many of our players actually give up tbh. I think its just taking its toll being destroyed in games week in week out for so long. Usually, a well run roster will have the capability to drop in these younger players when they need it, and they wouldnt have been all put in at once.

I dont think we need an elite core, i just think we need some solid players now who will give them somebody to look to for advice and leadership on the field.
They take shortcuts, getting caught around the ruck so they don’t have to get back 10, pretending to be impeded in kick chases so they don’t have to run down field, standing around watching the ball in the air instead of getting back to help defend it. There’s just soo many effort areas that we are lacking in. They think if they make their run or their tackle their jobs done and it’s now someone else’s turn. It’s not only the young guys either.

Covid hasn’t helped, paying for hyped players hasn’t helped either, I agree.

Tbh I was really hoping Kev would instil a much more (little things) approach, “keep it simple stupid” if you will. Now he either has and the players are just fucking clueless or he isn’t being strict enough about it?

I just can’t get past the soft part though, as a team and individually there just seems to be no way they’re this bad, the only thing I keep coming back too and just by watching individual body language, there just doesn’t seem to be a single stoic person in this team, bar maybe riki. Now do they just need a REAL captain to give them a little extra courage, it would help. Not one that just bangs out single standard quotes after they get cut through the middle. “ONE SET” shut the **** up, grab the ball and run like an insane person, lead by example.

I still would love to see a hell of a lot more commitment by individuals. You may be young, you may not have the km’s in the legs that takes years to develop but you sure as **** and still throw you body in the way or chase that kick like your life depends on it.

the team is too young with a shit core but it’s shouldn’t be this bad.
