POST GAME [Round 5, 2024] Broncos vs Storm

First time I've been happy in defeat. I would be embarrassed if I was the storm and I reckon the rest of the comp will be looking over their shoulder after that. The experience we're getting into the depth early this year is priceless. Hats of to Kev, this team is going to dominate once we have even cap on the field, depth will get better from that game. **** the purple cheats, they played to their best and was only just good enough thanks to 2 bombed tries and a quarter of our cap on the sidelines

Because the attack was absolutely rudderless and they figured some points were better than no points. Not the right option, but the only difference would have been they lost by 4 points instead of 2.

They were outplayed the entire night. Just a bit of luck made it competitive.
We scored pretty easily at the end there.. A full set on their line was definitely the play.

I'm also convinced that the bunker bought into the storm player celebrating the put down like he'd just won the lotto. There was zero conclusive evidence, unless they didn't show us a camera angle for whatever reason, to overturn that barge over.

Its early days, but we have real bench impact now with Willison and Te Kura. Its a lot to expect to get a full year out of them, but they have a real physicality about them. Once Payno is back, those 2 coming off the bench with Jensen and Payne starting is going to be pretty impressive. We can then get Hetherington giving Patty a stint ( he simply cant keep these herculean efforts up, its ridiculous to expect it ) and we have an excellent forward rotation.

Slap a bronco jersey on wishart thats a try all day mate.

Also there is absolutely no way there was enough video evidence to overturn the on field decision of no try and award that inbred looking blonde Storm kid a 4 pointer.

If that was us they’d take it off us 100% of the time, even if it was sent up as a try.

Beaten because of a thousand injuries, terrible NRL reffing (as per usual) and then ultimately because a utility halfback off the bench managed to score off a crash line through two forwards.

Riki and Baker should be ashamed that Wishart was allowed to catch that with intact ribs let alone him running over the top of both of you to score
I don't think you can blame Riki, if anything he made it look a lot better for Baker

If we have a full strength team the Storm are toast next time we meet even with Klown as the ref. Their right side defence is a shambles that Walsh would have a field day with.

As I said in the live game thread the Storm without 6 agains and penalties are struggling to get out of their own half. They are dangerous close to the line but kudos to our defence as they had to constantly kick to our in goal on the last tackle. We then unbelievably do a short drop out and gift them field position again and again.
Great debut from big Ben and egg on the face whoever said that he won't score the crash tries in the NRL like he was doing in QLD cup. If Reynolds can't play next week leave Walters at 7 and bring Mozer through. Billy is a poor mans 7 but still much better than at 9 when Mozer is available.

I still can't let go of the short drop outs we do. They cost us a GF and now a game against the Storm scum. Short drop outs are for when you are down on points with the clock winding down not when your leading ffs.

Absolutely embarassing from Baker. Huge from Patty as usual and monster effort from Te Kura.

Baker getting run over by a ressie half when he made 3 fkn runs.

Hunt also poor.

There was a play right before that weird video ref try, where Ezra passed it to Selwyn on halfway, and then he did some shitty little 8m kick to nobody. That was the losing play unfortunately. As spike pointed out, game management.

Ezra has a lot to learn if he wants to be a 7 (love you Ezra)
Ezra needs to remain a running 5/8th, he did his best trying to fill Reynolds shoes but I just don't see him as a genuine number 7 playmaker. The Broncos have tried over the years going down this path of trying to manufacture ballrunners into playmakers(Shaun Berrigan comes to mind) and failed.

this

anyone who says that they can definitively see the white ball touch the grass when completely surrounded by white jersey's, white boots and white socks and only peaking through a tiny gap between the bodies ... is a fucking liar

I am thoroughly convinced we're a sleeping giant this season, and I am judging that all off of our attitude in games and our defensive resolve (of course it's better when we're full strength which was not tonight).

We just went down to Melbourne and put a scary shot across their bow while severely depleted. That doesn't happen 5 years ago. We get done by 40 under those circumstances 5 years ago. Hell that doesn't even happen when Locky was still going around.

This team is in a good place, trust me. We have just had some seriously rotten luck with injury. If it never happens at all, I am convinced we're right there in the top 4 with Penrith right now.
