PRE-GAME [Round 5, 2025] Broncos vs Tigers

Did i just see somewhere that they're going to bin ALL high shots or is that just Buzz on a Monday arv bender??

It's so typical that NRL go from zero, to a million and will then reverse back to 10 after a thousand complaints come through... and when finals and origin are being played we'll be back at zero.

This is all because the bunker just decided to do an Adam Gee and not officiate anything... what was wrong with last year??

Shoulder contact to the head and you're in the bin... instead we'll be in magic round from a few years back where Teddy and his slipping and sliding will have 5 players in the bin before half time

Haven't heard anything saying they're going to bin all high shots, but I think it's going to very much be like Magic Round '21 this weekend.
Well we're the 6th game of the weekend, and slip and slide Teddy plays Friday night and the Panthers game will be a dive-a-thon as well... so hopefully some absolute shockers occur before us and they're forced to dial it back early.

Unfortunately the big divers aren't occurring until our game (tigpies) or after in storm and dogs... so the absolute farce that diving and sinbining could become won't occur until we're on.

This will be no different to knee jerk rule enforcement.
Broncos will lose 3 players to the bin + several weeks of suspensions and fines before the crackdown is dialed back because of fan outrage and we wont see any more bins for the rest of the round outside of blatantly dangerous tackles.

We have seen this before with "crackdowns" and its fucked.

So relieved we aren't the Thursday night game. Hopefully the outrage is well and truly over the top by Saturday and it's already dialled back.

Raiders vs Cronulla on Thursday night is going to be a complete shitshow - probably some howlers and Ricky loses his shit.

Any direct contact with the head will be sin-binned this weekend.

NRL sent out an email to all clubs stating several incidents on the weekend should have resulted in sin bins, including Riki and Gilbert's.

They will be cracking down hard this week so hopefully the players take note of that.
This is so dumb. I'm worried it will turn into that crackdown they had during a previous magic round, where every light touch to someone's face was a sin bin.

Why can't they just use common sense with these things!? Sure, the refs might get some wrong, but 95% of tackles which should be sin bins or not are pretty obvious to everyone (and with a bunker, it should be much harder to miss).

Instead, the next few weeks are going to be ruined by teams diving or staying down every 2nd tackle.

But we need to win. So we should just dive at people's shoulders all game and stay down everytime until there's a sin bin....

With this apparent crackdown I'll be looking for the game's midgets to be running headfirst into the chest and shoulder region of taller defenders. If that game winning penalty the Warriors got has set precedence going forward there'll be some face palming to come.

Abdo has clarified it.:

Some high tackles will simply be penalised, but "direct forceful contact to the head with no mitigation" will see players sent to the bin.

"I think it's important to acknowledge that the referees do a great job and get 98 per cent of the calls right. Then there are some calls that are going to be 50/50 and debated ... and then there are calls that are just wrong, and are errors."
"Over the weekend, we identified (incidents of) direct forceful contact to the head with no mitigation, and that's a clear sin bin. You'll see high tackles that might be penalised, or there might be some mitigation. But the referees know what the decision trees look like. Direct, forceful contact – so when we saw shoulders directly into the head, no mitigation, the player wasn't falling ... that's a clear sin bin, and we saw about four of those occasions this round, and it was unfortunate."
