Spoiler: Every team has players that are overpaid.

That's the inherent flaw in signing players to 3+ year contracts. You're essentially signing them based on what they could be worth in a couple of years if they keep improving, not what they're currently worth.

A) It's not the Broncos fault, Milford was viewed as a $1M+ player by everyone after his performances in 2015-17.
B) It's not Milford's fault that he signed that contract, everyone would have.
C) I don't think Milford has become worse as a player since he signed that contract, he was a brilliant running Five-Eighth with the occasional flash of kicking ability. We forced him to become Ben Hunt after we let Hunt go. He's drastically improved his kicking game since Hunt left, but has lost the natural flare that he had prior.

He clearly isn't designed to be a DCE-style game manager and game winner, it's a shame that some inept coaching and recruitment decision making from Bennett led him down that path.

So yeah, I feel sorry for him.

You can make as many excuses as you like for him, it still doesnt stop him from being overpaid and underperforming.

Learning a new skill doesnt generally inhibit an old one. Are you suggesting his ability to kick is inversely proportionate to his ability to run the ball? Yes, he may have been asked to do more in previous years but now we are asking him to do what he supposedly is best at, run the ball and make things happen.

If people have expected him to become a game controlling half, more fool them, you can check my post history on this but I have always seen him more as a benji marshall x factor player than a cronk. Problem is hes not really good at either anymore.

in any case I was trying to work out where the **** the ruck infringements were to continuing gift 6 again sets to Manly. It seems like a complete lottery and is on the whim of the ref to enforce.

I’m crazy enough to break state borders and physically cough at every ref just to bring this farcical “sport” into a grinding halt!

I posted about this in the Six again rule thread and it reared its head again tonight.

arbitrary repeat sets, poor decisions (Klein though) due to having to worry about policing too many things, inconsistent judgement calls ie forward passes. The rules should never have been change mid-season, regardless of the circumstances.


Lastly, Belinda Sharpe has to be the WORST touch judge in history. I’ve never seen her make a correct call.

With what we pay Milford we could basically buy any Half in the NRL. We could probably get a Ponga or a Cook for only marginally more.

Does he still sound like a good investment to you now?

I did say knock back some coin he can’t be kept long term on his current wage that’s for sure, but he offers something that Croft and dearden do not (if he’s engaged) and I don’t want to keep dearden on the sidelines much longer. Croft does not come as advertised. Again just my opinion

Every team forms up quicker than we do. In fact we don’t have any form, it’s just spray and pray stuff for us.

Uh... yes?

If you spend 2 years practicing kicking more every day at training, doing extras every day with kicking coaches, coming in to the game with the mindset 'Ok I have to kick us out of trouble here', yes, absolutely. I don't see how you could possibly say it wouldn't affect his running game. The proof is in the pudding, compare his running stats with Ben Hunt vs without.

That's precisely what people expected, specifically Wayne Bennett. I think Bennett's choice to turn Milford into a kick-bot in 2018 literally derailed his career. We didn't have the personnel last year to move him back to a runner, now we've finally got a Halfback who can supposedly kick and he's really not delivering at all. Tough situation for Milford. I think if Croft improves his kicking game and starts taking control of the footy game like we bought him to do we'll see incremental progression from Milford back to his old self.

This. We have no attack. No shapes, nothing. No wonder Croft and Milf look lost. There are no set plays other than passing the ball to the nearest middle forward and hope for something to happen rather than making it happen.

I am beginning to lose faith in Seibold.

EDIT: Boyd's try was well set up with deft passing by Croft and Milf playing the same side. That's what can happen however, it disappeared from our game after that. Something has to change. We can't just rely on Fifita and TPJ and Haas

It's one thing to defend him from bullshit agendas, and another to say he can do no wrong, but by all means, keep blaming the 1 million dollar man.

I'm with you Pete. Confused.
I just do not see how the
Cordner obstruction wasn't called clear obstruction. Boyd's second try was called then Cherry's was not. That's 3 calls and they all went against us and all pretty much the same.
The 6 again rule too has so much obscuraty. We have the equivalent of the rugby union scrum . Nobody knows WTF the call is most of the time.

I honestly have no idea and cannot see what we are doing so differently to be on the wrong side if it every game.

This is the stuff that needs to be aired publicly I haven’t seen one go for us all of them have gone against and they all look the same.

I hate being this guy, but the officiating really has me down. I thought our guys while not being great were the better team.

I thought Coates was undisciplined and gave away some silly errors but he showed what raw young talent can do.

But **** me, 12-2 penalty count and some really unfavourable calls that I’m trying to pass off as the footy universe balancing itself out.

Thought the better team lost tonight as a result of some questionable officiating.

* = Bennett begins transitioning Milford into the 'game manager'

After watching the post game stuff with Seibold, nothing is ever going to change with the sport in regards to the performance of the referee. We got monumentally fucked for 45 minutes and Seibs doesn't say a fucking word to put the spotlight on them. Manly get one borderline bad call and their coach goes off on the refs. The club apparently prides itself on not making excuses, yet has made many excuses over the last year but are still reluctant to call out the referees performance. It's never going to change..
