POST GAME [Round 6, 2024] Broncos vs Dolphins

Speak for yourself

I am a diehard Bronco fan, I don't have any 2nd or 3rd teams.

If they want to bill this is as some sort of rivalry/derby, the other team needs to actually win one. Otherwise, who the **** cares?

Ah ha .
Doesn`t look delayed , but they were def out of synch . I thought Riki was offside on the initial kick when he toe`d it through for Cobbo to score as well . I was waiting for it to be called back .

Even if he was offside, he's outside 10 when Niko plays at it and loses it which means he can then become involved in the play so if the bunker took it off us it would have been a farce.

My 2 cents worth:

# Thought we started slow, they were allowed too much field position in dangerous areas.

# Despite that, they didn’t really look like scoring. The one they got was gifted by Oates.

# we left a lot of points out there, going in only 2 points ahead was criminal.

# Oates length of the field no/try wasn’t a waste of time. Hammers hamstrung now.

# Willison…… or Haas V2 as I call him, just wow.

# Patty…… incredible work ethic.

# disappointing last few mins, allowing them to add a few points on the board.

Overview:

Steady improvement since day 1 especially given the disruptions caused by injuries.

We didn’t play great but didn’t need to.

room for improvement, let’s keep the momentum going, one win at a time.

We’re Brisbane. They’re not.

Next………

Thanks for the clarification .

Madden wasn't terrible. He made his tackles and the right side defence was pretty good (although the dolphins didn't throw too much at it).

His kicking game is meh at best, but was obviously under the direction of kick high and to the corner, but he doesn't get great height on it.

My criticism is he was not responding to the dolphins defence. They kept rushing up and cutting backlines off, but not once did he look to put a kick behind the line, or pass over the top (like ezra identified and started doing)

He was also not straightening the attack (like reyno does) when passing out the back, meaning the the dolphins just continued to slide out and mainly nullified walsh.

He is experienced enough in nrl, qcup and nsw cup now and should be able to do these things.

Yeah agree baker cab just soak up the first 20 minutes, willison comes on for the bigger minutes and goes full animal
Can't agree with baker idea.. better players in the wings can make impact straight up. He shouldn't be rewarded 4 his performances this year so far 👎

Pat doesnt look impressed with that display talking to Danika.

Really ordinary performance. Apart from Carrigan, nobody played a good 80 mins, but i thought Willison and Smoothy had good impact from the bench.

I dont think we actually did much wrong in a lot of ways, but we didnt do much right either. Too many simple errors, and our discipline was way off. Need to respect the footy more.
Willison did. I was hugely impressed with that performance. He gave us everything tekura did in attack but also provided solid defence. I saw him tackle 5 in a row, a complete set.
He should never leave the team with that prrformance displayed consistently.

It wasn't his best game but ffs corey jensen is INSANELY consistent.

You need players like him in every team, arthurs and even staggs now but to a higher level are the same. Will never be your best but will always give you a 7/10-ish.

If broncos play it smart I think we should re-sign whoever is willing to be cheaper out of cobbo and staggs (I think staggs is more important but cobbo is the better player - I'd go staggs bcos he'd be cheaper as well) and do the same with hethrington and jensen, prioritise willison and Walsh out of this next lot.
Mozer and black out of the 2025 lot as well then baker, hunt, hoeter etc can be told they get a deal if they are happy with minimum wage and back up positions. As good a back up as sailor is he will likely be a sacrifice too.

The media saying "salary cap drama" because we have so many off contract, it's actually the opposite. The club get to direct and massage the money into who and what we need rather then being held to ransom.

We have 2/3 of haas, Te Kura and willison together with carrigan, walsh and mam and the rest of the squad is luxury, they just need to be solid and consistent with a decent kicking game from someone.
If the broncos play it smart, they try to keep both; they go to Cobbo and Staggs and say we have $1.3m (example only) to spend on our centre pairing. If you want to stay here, play with your mates in a premiership contending team in front of 40,000 plus fans every second week - then you can have $650k each. If you want every last dollar you can possibly get, we understand and respect that, but this isn't the club for you.

I can see why they are prioritising Cobbo at the moment, but i think we keep both as well. I don't think either player will be keen on moving away from the Broncos. If one does leave we Israel Leota thats going to be coming through in the next few years. I see him as a Talakai type of player, could play anywhere in the forwards or backs.

We already have Mariner locked up, so he'll be fine if we need to replace one of the centres anyway.

Watching it at the ground looked like Madden would pause for a second before kicking, not sure how it looks on TV though
You are spot on, he is taking too long to get the kick away, just by a step. A bit like Iliad.

I did say Willison was good from the bench. We just need to manage him properly now. He's had plenty of injury issues so we need to be careful with him.
