PRE-GAME Round 7 - Broncos vs Knights

I definitely think that Reeds defence has been hampered by the need to cover Milford. I think I am right in saying that his defence before Milford came to the club was impeccable, but since then he always seems preoccupied by Milford's man more than his own, which isn't his fault.

You saw the Round 4 game against the Cowboys, right?

Are you going to answer Cult's question?

I see a few people saying that, but no one ever answers it when called out on it.

I want to know about all of the times he got burned.

he does have the occasional good game.

but he does get burned alot or simply just miss tackles.

best example is the Roosters final last year where Ferguson burnt him badly twice in the space of 5 minutes.

and while i don't have a photographic memory for every minute of every game ... i have seen some horrible reads in defence from him as well as him allowing players to get on the outside of him. (this season). against the better centers that gets him found out

for a defensive center, especially one a slow as Reed, his defence has to be impeccable. and it hasn't been for several years (since he had his first shoulder problem).

and that is a big part of why i want him on the wing, (although it wont happen). he won't have to worry about his his busted shoulder as he will be able to position himself so players run to his inside (good) shoulder. He is a decent finisher and if we have a speedy player on his inside, like Roberts, then his lack of speed can be nulified slightly as he can set up his center.

just my opinion.

but we (or at least I) are getting off topic.

This game should be straight forward for us ... if we hold the ball and build pressure then the points will come ... complacency is our biggest danger in this game.

I trust Kahu under the high ball more, so I just can't agree with that. I would be really worried every time a high ball went up to Reed.
I think that is the crux of the question.

The problem is that while Kahu is a better centre than Reed, he is a MUCH better winger than Reed.

Not that I agree with the former, but if I do, then there's nothing to really discuss, is there? Kahu stays on the wing in that case.

Yes, I wasn't disagreeing with you.

Obviously the solution is Milford to fullback, Boyd to the wing and Kahu to centre.

I guess I have been watching different games than many posters in this thread when it comes to Kahu. I think he has been very solid in the first 6 weeks of the year. He has been excellent under the high ball, has finished well, and been solid in defence. All that while playing a bit banged up.

Not every player has to be the star. If you understand Bennett and his philosophy, you understand why a guy like Kahu gets picked week in and week out.

Just want to give a shoutout to Robert's defence so far this season. It was my only concern for him coming into the side and he has proved me wrong with some really solid performances. In hindsight I'm glad we didn't get Gagai now...

+1 on the Roberts rap, i was definitely curious about how reliable he'd be in D and what burden that would be to the right edge given that for all the yards hodgo had lost he was so damn wiley it was rare to really see him get pumped too obviously up til perhaps last year, but if anything i really have to say he's locked that side down with all the bang up jobs our backline suffered rounds 1-6. on that note im reserving much judgement over all of them seeing as theyve barely had any consistency so far. Boyd has been incredible all round and it'd take a petty fan to roast Roberts for his slow attacking start under the circumstances - the one time i can remember him get beat against the cowboys he turned and mowed em down within 10m lol

now just imagining a way to extend this tolerance to Hunt! Milf (& the last few weeks Roberts) have been gamebreakers so far tho, so hoping it doesnt comedown to just that against this damn rabble. sorry nathan brown, not sorry. if you really want to coach it should be in the super league.. for the next decade at least

I remember we tried to lose this match last year, down 18-6 in the first half but scored a try close to half time to be 18-10. Then got our crap together early in the second half and ran away with it.

With the quality in our team this is a match we should not be losing.

There is no reason why we should lose this game, we have it over the Knights in every way and we are in form.

I was filthy with that first half.

If memory serves, the Knights scored a real dodgy try and our boys didn't know how to handle it. They let in two more soft tries and it just looked like the typical deal where one side was served a massive advantage and the players we had available didn't have the coping mechanisms.

Then the senior players like JK and Milf stepped up and the game swung dramatically.

I still hate the rep affected rounds. I find them to be a massive blight on the game and it hurts the overall quality of the product. However, the Broncos did present a good counter argument that evening. I think that second half performance was a real turning point and the likes of Milf, Reed and Oates really played well off the back of that game.

Sorry for my ignorance this has probably already been discussed but is this 3 sets of brothers playing for Newcastle?

I know the Sims are but not sure about the others.

Yup, all sets are brothers.

They have a third Mata'Utia if I recall correctly.

I think he was signed by the Bulldogs or St George? But yeah I definitely remember there is 3.

Pretty crazy to have 3 sets of brothers in the one team though, that has to be some kind of record. It's basically a family meeting in the dressing room.
