PRE-GAME Round 7 - Broncos vs Sharks

We have to win a game at some point, I’m tipping broncos by 2
My take on this, as I have posted before, is that Seibold appears more concerned about building a team that plays according to his way, as opposed to trying to win a premiership in his 1st year with a roster which is used to doing things in ways very much different to his. Fundamental changes take time, and on top of that he has a lot of young players. He is also showing faith in the players he "inherited" which for mine, is the right thing to do, as long as there are limits to tolerating anyone who can't adapt to his style and methods. Naming Dearden in the 21 seems to show Seibold's planning.

That’s all well and good, but all the ‘process’ and ‘structure’ in the world, doesn’t account for the slop we are serving up in defence. Whatever changes he wants to make is up to him, but if he think anything else is more important, then he is an imbecile and I really don’t think he is.

Whatever his priorities are, fixing our defence HAS to be first.

Can the defence really be fixed this year? I mean, sure, it can get better, but can it become consistently good?
Are there any examples of teams who started out with shitty defence finishing seasons with consistently quality defence?

We haven’t lost to the sharks in nearly 3 years. Let’s hope that continues.

We might be able to grind out a win , but far from confident. Just where and how is this team going to produce anrthing other then theynhave dished up already this year ? Very few tries have come from well structured and executed back line plays and we need those sort of tries to encourage confidence from fans and players alike.

Even if we lose, we need a game with less than ten missed tackles and as close to zero as possible errors. I'd be happy with a narrow loss if those things are achieved, more so than if we fluke a flogging of the sharks.

That said, a nice convincing win is about due.

Why do you fancy Bird in the middle , he is struggling to tackle anyone who has a slight step or a fend.

We don’t have anyone supporting or forward who can offload... he big enough to handle himself in there and smart enough to make the most of offloads. Just have him following them up all game

What’s your reason for putting Fifita in the centres?

Think he still looks fast and agile cause he’s young and he is a massive unit who could steamroll a lot of his opposites and put his wingers away more than we are doing now. Think you could get a few seasons out of him before moving back to the forwards

This didn't really fit anywhere else.

Injury Update: Matt Lodge

THE Broncos expect Matt Lodge to make a return from a throat injury on Saturday night.

Lodge completed this morning’s training session ahead of the match against the Sharks at Suncorp Stadium.

He had been named in the extended squad by coach Anthony Seibold on Tuesday.

The big prop is almost certain to come into the Broncos' 17-player final squad now.

“Matt gained clearance yesterday from the specialist and was then required to get through the session today,” said Broncos' head of performance Paul Devlin.

“Matt trained strongly today, did everything that was asked of him and barring any complications is available for selection to play against the Sharks.”

Lodge cleared. You’d imagine patty would drop off. Interesting to see if offa or haas start

It better be Haas! Carrigan would be unlucky to lose his spot in the 17, he hasn't put a foot wrong.

Yeah I agree, but flegler was preferred originally. Having haas tpj and lodge starting is pretty exciting

It is but I think maybe TPJ off the bench would be better. Bust the Sharks open towards half time and hopefully with no dropsies some exciting tries against tired defence.

Yeah I think they went with Flegler because of impact. I'm not so sure that's what our team needs right now. We need players who are gonna get their job done, and help build confidence with our team. Particularly on the defensive side of things. I would be going with Pattycakes.
