Really all we're asking of him is to mark up on his man and back himself 100%

I think he learned a lot against the Storm the way they targeted him.

Is he opposite Beau Champion?

Anyway, I am sure he will learn a lot more with Burgess and/or T'eo running at him. I'm looking forward to see how he handles this test.

the biggest worry is going to be inglis running at him. him or prince. but im sure we've done our homework.

thing is, you do the basics right, and hte opposition simply doesnt get opportunity. complete sets, kick long and well, and dont give away stupid penalties.

we simply will not stop them on our own line if we give them too many opportunities.

norman needs to be on his game positionally to prevent them repeat sets.

And let me just say...well that sucks.

Hope Kahu can hold his own defensively. He's got the toughest assignment in the game in GI so he's in for a tough evening but as long as he doesn't present a huge passage like he did with Sau, he won't be too big a liability. We'll miss Hodges no doubt, he's a leader out there and one of the few who can come up with a big play. I just hope Kahu goes out there and focuses on doing his job. I actually think it won't be that bad, but then again I'm an eternal optimist.

Wallace in for an injured J. McGuire could be an upgrade on last week. Wallace is just the big boppa (along with Hala) that I wanted on the bench and I hope he stakes his claim.

Can't fault anybody tipping Souths now.

Inglis runs to the left hand side from fullback, Kahu is playing right. Wallace has been going well for a struggling Norths, he hasn't played in two weeks though.

Written: Don't judge a guy on just his second game when he's coming back from two ACL tears.

I'm going to judge him. I don't care what injuries he's had, if he's not up to first grade, he's not up to it. I hope he surprises me, if he has a blinder, I'll come in here and say I'm impressed.

I don't think I'll have to though. I think he's going to be another young player who BroncosHQ members talk up to be the greatest thing on the planet, only to fall on his hass, play a handful of games, and never be heard of again.

Wow, what's with all the negativity. Why are you so made at kahu just because some members have a man crush on him. He hasn't asked to be talked up, he isn't going around saying 'look at me'. After two knee recos before his twenty I'm sure the kid just wants to play the best footy he can for the team he loves. Cut him some
slack.

I think Nashy is just extremely skeptical given the amount of young talent which has been talked up by the Qcup and U20 enthusiasts on here, only for him to be disappointed when they are average at best in first grade.

Last meeting between the teams:

To think we were 2nd after round 16 last season...

Exactly this. I've been on BroncosHQ/BroncoNet since around 2002. The amount of players who are the next greatest player to play the game, who have ultimately been absolute nuffies who we never hear of again is amazing.

I actually don't recall any players who have come through the ranks and made it big in the NRL were even considered by some of the so called junior experts on here in all those years.

So what I've learnt. If BHQ says he's shit hot. He's probably going to be just shit.

Cynical view but an understandable one. That said, I think it's a bit harsh to write them off before they play :P

Oh, my bad.

I'm so sorry Kahu that you've had two possible career ending injuries. Because I feel bad, I think you should play in the NRL team I support. Because a few people on the Internet say that before those injuries, you could have been good, and because they kind of feel sorry for you, and want to see you play well.

I want to see him play well. And if he does, like I said, I'll come in here and state that I thought he played well.

But what is funny, is that everyone's been talking him up. Then when he finally gets selected, the injuries (excuses) come up to fall back on. Maybe I'm reading it wrong. But maybe I'm not.

My view, Kahu is a talented youngster who showed a lot of promise in Under 20s.
He's then suffered 2 bad knee injuries.
Throughout it, he's shown great attitude to recovery, he's always on social media giving rev ups to the team, and coming across as positive.

For all those reasons I hope he does well, and I'm happy Griffin is giving him a shot in first grade.

Do I expect him to be a superstar? No. But I'd much rather he get given an opportunity than play someone like Gillett or Glenn out of position.

Correct. The likes of Hoffman, Gillett, Eastwood, Hannant, Kemp (08), Stagg, Thaiday - all talked up by this forum and have gone on to do sweet **** all for the Broncos. Not to mention that Greg Inglis bloke - I remember he was talked up here when he was playing for Norths and he is another that has gone on to do absolutely nothing. This place has no clue.

Pffft, you're such a grumpy old man, @Nashy! :tongue_smilie:

I haven't seen enough of Kahu to know if he's going to 'make it' or not, but as with any young player, I'm going to give him time to prove himself. I don't get to watch the Queensland Cup or any of that, so how they perform in that or how people say they perform (I do like reading reviews though!) has no bearing on me - I'll judge them on their performances in first grade. That said, I understand that it's a big step up to first grade, and you always need to consider the 'context' when judging a player - there's an absolute myriad of things that form the context. ****, I feel like I'm doing an English assignment here.

Some players make the step up to NRL level and thrive immediately... but then fade away into a career of nothingness (Daniel Mortimer for instance), whilst others might take a few years to establish themselves, but when they do, they're an extremely valuable member of the team. Of course, there's also those players that fall in between those two extremes!

Not exactly an accurate scepticism. The Broncos whole side bar Wallace has played 20's and or Queensland Cup. That's a pretty healthy return from the two comps.

Most of the that disappointment is because people just rely on hear-say to 'wrap' guys in the Queensland Cup or 20's. Very few watch themselves and make up their own mind.

Mate, all I'm saying is why assume he's gonna be s*** before even really seeing him play. But in that same mindset I don't understand why people talk these kids up either. Just let them play and if they are good, great. If they are not well bag me
Out I guess

Pull the other one mate.

All the players you listed went well under the radar of the majority of posters on here. Apart from yourself and BroncoMatt, I don't think there is anyone on here who has a clue about our juniors.

I'm not saying he's going to be shit. I'm saying that I think it's funny that he's been talked up to be great, then as soon as he's selected, excuses for why he may not meet those expectations get thrown around.
