PRE-GAME [Round 9, 2026] - Broncos vs Roosters

Absolutely central to our chances this week.

Proved we can grind out games off the back of discipline and structured play with Walsh out the last few weeks.

A lot rests on Reyno pulling the right reins. Building pressure and playing the percentages when we need to, and identifying when to let them loose.

If the spine can nail the balance, we're a good chance.

Yeah the 93% completion rate is the kind of play style we can adopt without Walsh there... as Reyno has control and decides when to spring an attack.

Walsh wants to attack pretty much all the time, which can lead to soft errors and releases the pressure instantly.

It's been about the balance between Reyno and Walsh for a couple years now... we really need them to figure it out without Walsh having to go into his shell, but also without needing to be balls to wall attack and errors.

The forward pack likely won last week because we won the possession battle, but they were still gassed by the end... we need to control the ball and hopefully Walsh realises that

I wonder how Gee will control the ruck after Reyno had a whinge (FINALLY) to the press about us constantly (and wrongly) being slowed more than the opposition without equitable infringements.

Also need Mark to have a rough day with the ball. I'd try and cook his confidence early with a torpedo or two. Marky Mark and Toia remind me of Bj Leilua and Rapana in 2016/17. Will shred you or cook themselves. Our game plan round one last year was awesome with Teddy, we had him digging kicks out of either corner and he loves the centre of the field more than anyone so we actually ended up gassing him.

I said this last week and the week before but I am strangely least confident about this one.

Yes we get walsh and carrigan back but with piakura and piki out our forwards are gonna have to put in ANOTHER huge shift.

The bench will be even more light on.

Also I think Chooks have a much better roster/depth then the tigers/dogs.

So on their given day, they are much harder to beat than those two... so if the Chooks have a good day, we could be in for a long night.

However if we can just rattle the cages a bit, get them a bit nervy with a 12-0 start or something, which would then give our boys massive confidence... then we are also capable of running away with it.
