POST GAME [Round 9, 2026] - Broncos vs Roosters

A few of us on twitter are trying to bait Journos into asking the questions. Privately fuming achieves nothing unless they are calling the NRL bosses and telling them that they hope both sides of their pillow is warm tonight

The problem is the vlandys is all about the short term. He doesnt care about the game or its future. In fact, I reckon he would prefer the game fails big time after he leaves so his ego can say "see! I was the best!". And short term means clicks, and controversy gets clicks.

The problem for all of us and the game we love is, it gets clicks in the short term but it also makes fans turn away from the game in the long term. I used to watch 8 games plus other footy on a weekend, now Im lucky to watch a full broncos game tbh. Im not alone! My kids wont play it unless they have a burning desire too, but with afl pushing in up here big time i doubt they will, I am also not alone here.

People saying theres no agendas, bias or we are just "conspiracy theorists" are ****ing idiots tbh. We have a racing guy in charge of our bloody game who looks like he walked out of a massage parlour on a wednesday morning, you think money isnt priority one. He doesnt care about the game or its fans. Every single time you make an obvious and valid observation about bias or agendas to some of people they throw out the conspiracy crap or negative crap... I fuvking LOVE this game, I love watching park footy, I grew up around those bloody sheds, I love the broncos and the joy the club has brought me... I ****ing hate what is happening to this game, everyone should be pissed off!!!! And thankfully it is happening, not just in our fan base but across the board, the media spin is not hiding in the comments sections, reddit and on completly independent podcasters outlooks. The fans are over it!

Sorry for the rant, but **** pvl, **** the nrl, **** the nrl media, and **** anyone that makes out like calling them out is the problem...

I only really watch games in the background purely for Supercoach... but I can't really be assed with Supercoach this year so I haven't been watching all the games... or even having them on in the background.

Usually I'm checking teams 1hr before kick off and checking podcasts through the week, etc. but I just don't care this year.

Didn't watch whatever the first game today was, caught the 2nd half of sharks flogging the tigs and then only flicked over for panthers because I had Cleary captain and it looked like panthers chucked it into cruise control anyway.

They were clunky as **** and had zero energy, so they didn't even really care about turning up and still got the win.

Haven't tuned into anything Faux, nine or seven have put on this year outside of catching the panels just before kick off, halftime, etc.

Since giving up all fantasy games, I don’t watch anything except Broncos games now, and sometimes the last 5-10mins of whatever’s on before our games start.

I skip most of the “analysis” segments as well because it’s absolute dross

A 19-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly sending a threatening text message to prominent NRL referee Adam Gee just before the Broncos vs. Rabbitohs match at Accor Stadium.

June 2024, we went on to lose that game 22-12.

We lose the infringement/penalty count 10-7 that night, receiving 4 of them after they were up 22-0 already.

But im sure being abused by a fan from a club has no subconscious impact on his officiating.
I for one would be terrified if a 19 yr old sent me an aggressive and threatening text message. I’d probably move out of town for my own safety.

Talty’s wasn’t even a hip drop, the replays showed the force was toward the ground.

The issue with Radley was that he then got penalised again very next tackle for a high shot, maybe two. That’s always been a sinbin.
I don’t even know what a “hip drop” is..

Legitimate tackle imo.

Take the player by the waist and bring them down.

I just cannot understand how anyone at the club (especially Madge and the players) can just sit there and cop this dogshit treatment without having an aneurysm. I really, really don't get it.
Staggs had a brain explosion.

Key things to look for

1st priority... is the ball runner lying down holding his leg/ankle?
2nd priority... was any part of the defender touching the legs, whilst they're completing a tackle

At that point the ref has already called time off and the bunker is checking the optics/game situation, but most likely a penalty... if the player is actually injured (excluding broncos) then the defender is going to the bin.

I find it fascinating. We’re the premiers and it seems we can’t stand to watch this trash. I can’t imagine talk is better at struggling clubs.

At what point does the dam burst and fans actually legit start walking away? This last five years has been an awful half decade of rugby league and all signs point to it getting even worse.

At what point does the media start getting worried about how much negativity there is around the NRL among fans?

The reality is that these effects might not be fully realised for another ten years and I reckon Vlandal is counting on it because he’ll be gone by then and won’t have to clean up the mess he’s created.

I just want rugby league back but at least for me, I can still get it mostly via the ESL but it just tracks down too, just slower than the NRL.

I dont see things changing too much from where things are now. The fans hating the current product seem to be a loud minority (like most things on social media). Viewership, attendance, revenue, participation, etc are all up.

While im sure there are older fans put off by the current game, there must be more new fans getting into it.

Personally, while I hate some of the rule changes and way games are ref'd, I've never watched more nrl in my life compared to the last few years (probably helped by us making the gf twice in 3 years).

The thing with sport and the NRL is that there will always be a Top 4... and if you're in the top 4 their fans will be interested.... if their team makes the finals they'll be interested, but if they're not even competitive then it's probably only the diehards.

The later into the season that the media can keep running with the "closest comp ever" the more "engagement" they can get.

It feels like this year's draw has had all the shit teams playing each other... gets the hype up for teams that weren't expected to do much (cough tigers)... whilst the top teams have been carrying the "game of the round".

Winning teams that are shit (Tigers) are all over the refs tip sheets that "they're actually good this year... I think... maybe".

We're about to head into magic round and origin yet the top 8 has wahs, rabbits, tigers, cows and manly... all teams that either didn't make the 8 last year (if not being bottom 4) OR already knew they weren't doing anything come finals (wahs)... manly has already sacked their ****ing coach!!

At some point the wheels will fall off the also rans when they inevitably have to play actual finals teams and it will be up to the actual finals teams to chase down the also rans after giving them a head start, but until then it's "tHe cLOseSt cOmp eVAAAAAA"...

Yeah but Sproj, profit and viewership lines go up so everything is sweet

Can honestly say this sport became less important to me back when Bennett was doing his second term here. 2016-19. It has been a bit of a gimmick until then

I had to calm down a little before posting because Adam Gee's refereeing performance was nothing short of a disgrace and usually I'm not one to blame a loss on a referee but for this game...mate, the refereeing decisions came very very very close to costing us the game..but we lost because we started flat, they jumped us and we didn't match their physicality, line speed, desire etc etc.

It's not the referees fault we allowed them to go 70+ metres on the very 1st set of the game. Some of those tries we let in were very poor, lazy efforts. We had no answers for Walkers short kicking game however the try he scored was all luck.. but that's the thing, in the 2nd half when we finally decided to play like the ****en Broncos, we were well and truly up for it, we were in it, perhaps creating our fair share of luck BUT then, some referee decisions were blatant corruption honestly. How did Radley not get binned? I truly believe Staggs did what he did out of pure frustration.

We smoke these guys with a full squad, trust me. Not even the referee could help them but we have to be smarter and start much better, clean up our 6 agains and we'll be fine but damn it's frustrating.

On to Manly.

In under 7's it's how we were taught to tackle, especially on bigger blokes grab them round the waist and slide down and lock up the legs.
I can't really recall many "hip drops" that weren't just a accident which happens.
The one I remember where it looked like a player was deliberately attacking the leg trying to hurt the player was old matey doing Payne's knee.
