POST GAME Round 9 - Sharks vs Broncos

1. Start Kodi at 9. He deserves it if he wants to start. Macca surely missed out there.
2. Start Offa or Wafface on and leave Thaiday on bench. we need some punch after 25 minutes.
3. Our halves need to find the composure to control the game with their kicks. So far this is not happening. Hunts kicking game still one of the worst in the comp, if he can improve this we will be so much better.
4. We need more offloads/second phase and variation in attack. Looks too one dimensional. And lets use our backrowers more like the Cowboys do, ours are more skillful just not used to their potential.
5. Attack more right side with Gillo, Roberts and Kahu
6. Hate to say this but Cowboys look better than us so far, overall too strong. We are still second.

I don't think Wadell was anywhere near as bad as some on here are making out. He started the match, made all his tackles bar one which was better than Knickorima and took the heat for Knick as well. My preference though was as before the game, I would have changed McGoo to hooker and started Wallace and Joe....with Thaiday off the bench alongside Knick and co.

We're not a legitimate hope......? Really?

Which team/s are a legitimate hope?
>insert NQ's fan boys<
Why? Because they have JT .....Morgan.....Coote ? Yet they have lost just as many games as Brisbane......Eels and the Sharks. So what does this prove....?

......proves just as with any other team (yes, even the mighty Cowboys) that if you don't show up to play, you're going to get beaten and it won't matter who is in the side.

To put things into perspective and not make reactionary statements based on a singular loss or victory. If we're at our best and the Cowboys are at their best.....the NRL in 2016 is pretty much a two horse race and we're one of them. I'd say that pretty much makes us a "legitimate hope"......

I am not going to get into an argument with you, you have your viewpoint and I have mine. From my viewpoint, we will not win the premiership until Hunt and Milford on a consistent basis handle the crisis periods of big games and steer the side to a win. They did not do it in the grand final and they did not do it yesterday. Until that happens in my view we are behind the Cowboys and the addition of the new halves to Cronulla have given them a bit of stability and in Maloney that calm presence to handle those moments.

The halves handled the pressure against the cowboys this year pretty well and lets be brutally honest, we were within a bees dick of a premiership last year. We make that final tackle and we win the game and the premiership. Our halves not being up to big games is a total fucking cop out and quite frankly insulting to them. They are a huge reason why this team is so successful today. They didn't deserve to win yesterday and didn't and its the same with the panthers loss where the whole side was too complacent in the second half. They will learn from these losses and I would rather have them now than in September

Why would anyone want McGuire at 9! Thats the worst call ever, 9 is a specialist role; someone to control the ruck, pick the direction in play, its not just catch and pass..

To say the halves didn't stand up in the gf is unfair to Milf. Hunt imploded absolutely but Milf was clearly best on ground and was one tackle away from a Clive Churchill medal.

Because McGuire played there a bit for Samoa last year and did a very good job.

Because he's good at it, because he's played there at international level, because it gives the attack an enormous and powerful brick wall to run at...yeah, worst idea ever

Played at International level cause he played there at PNG? i wouldnt put him there based on that. Please.. Kasiano should be playing at 9 for NZ then. What options would he give in attack then? Worst idea ever

Wow you are really going for that worst idea ever despite McGuire being best on ground basically in that position for SAMOA (not PNG) against the big three nations and given it seems the other option is Waddell. Well good for you sticking to your guns.

The Good: Many teams would of just folded after a first half like that, With 90 seconds left in the game, it was still winnable. Joe and Jarred off the bench were solid again and I think if they keep at it, give them a few years and we have our new Petro and Webke. Roberts is becoming more dangerous with each passing week.

The Bad: Without Blair and Macca the defence was woeful especially in the first half. That said, the bounce of the ball was still going to the Sharks. Sam Thaiday does not play particularly well on the left side in attack. You can see he just is not comfortable on that side. Minus the try he scored, he was pretty ordinary. Hunt was absolutely shocking with his passing. His defence and kicking were poor but wow, his passing was just terrible. I get this bad feeling that Ben will be in need of a a good sports Psychologist for the duration of his career. It doesn't take much to get him off his game mentally and then it just escalates. Milford wasn't his best either.

The ugly: I was hopeful Waddell would prove people wrong but he didn't. Some folks are journey men at most and he just doesn't offer enough to warrant having him out there. No disrespect to the guy but that isn't professional level play. Parker scares me every time he lines one up. He is such a mechanical looking kicker. Surely enough is enough. Make even one more and it's golden point last night.

The reality: Minus one shitty half to the Panthers and one dreadful half yesterday, the Broncos have been excelling. They aren't perfect but when they have all of their best players on the field, they are always a good chance of winning. Blair will make a difference as will Macca who I am just going to take a wild guess and say he won't be gone the predicted 6 weeks. As Parker gets older it is all the more reason to pass on the kicking tee to Kahu. My last "reality point" is that sides will have off days. If we came 2 points away from a win with a start like that, it's nothing to lose sleep over. They will bounce back.

I'm loving the media blowing up like this is the end of the 2016 Broncos.

2 point loss on the road in a tough place to play, missing two key cogs and still owning the second half? Not overly unhappy.

The first half was just one of those days where everything goes wrong. The Gallen try was inexplicable, the Maloney try was a mix up and every bounce of the ball went their way.

Play them again at full strength and it's a comprehensive win.

Does show that the Broncos can get bullied around by bigger, motivated packs at time. Waddell shouldn't start again unless that was an absolute aberration.

Out of interest what articles have been saying that?

I found the 10 minute stretch where Parker and McGuire were playing Hooker entertaining. Wayne really didn't want to blow an intercharge on Waddell?

Gallen not charged for his blatant elbow to the face on McGuire.

Ridiculous.

Watching a replay of the game, I thought commentators were supposed to be impartial?

Anasta was terrible.

did you really expect he would... with a test match coming up. however, if it was the other way around with McGuire elbowing Gallen ... he would have got 3 weeks
