RUMOUR: Eels interested in Hunt

Well, he isn't an organizer.

He is a running halfback with some ball skills.

He has played 2 games at halfback for the Broncos and he did okay in his first one against the Storm.

I thought he did quite well against Wigan.

But honestly we would just be back to where we started putting Kodi at halfback. We would still lack that organizing halfback that everyone says we need. He is a runner.

I believe he is an organizer and is good at hooker if you've watched the games where he has come on at hooker he's done very well. He looks for his men as well.

I wouldn't get rid of hunt just because he has a bad kicking game compared to other elite halves like Thurston and Cronk. He was guy that gave myself hope and probably others in 2014 that maybe the Broncos are back and then the following year he helps us make the gf. Don't think he would leave as he has been loyal in the past.

This.

I just cannot for the life of me, recognise any of that in Hunt. You're mentioning the exceptions to the rule in those examples, which is that his kick accuracy, especially close to the line, is abysmal.

I've got nothing but respect for you as a poster here, but I wonder if you're not letting wishful thinking get the best of you?
You are genuinely the first person I recall ever praising Hunt's short kicking game...

Alternatively, I am hallucinating and it's me who sees his grubbers mostly hits legs, his cross kicks be too long or too short, his bombs be generally too shallow and land too far from the opposition line to be really dangerous, and the inability to actually kick really tough to catch torpedo bombs. :noidea:

This. I love Ben Hunt as a player and think he really can still be anything. But his kicking in general is just awful. Just as I've long said Broncos need to hire Halligan or some specialist goal-kicking coach on a near permanent basis because our 'professionalism' clearly hasn't been up to scratch in that notable area for years, similarly I think it is high time that we hire someone who can teach Hunt (and Milford, McCullough and Knik for that matter) tactical kicking in general play.

The idea that we don't have solid dependable kickers AND a smaller pack that isn't renowned for the metres up field it makes, just defies belief.

The fact that we do so well despite this, shows what we could be IF we could fix up those 1 percenters...

Take a leaf out of Cronk'/ book if they have to, just use hard work and persistence to overcome the lack of ability compared to some. Because all four CAN kick. They all do some great kicking at SOME times, they just need to hone that reliability...

That's why it's called Sports Limited. Their knowledge of what's happening is just that, limited.

I said it as a joke in the post game thread, but imagine if Hunt really did take up an offer elsewhere, I feel like a fully healthy (physically and mentally) Foran would be an absolutely incredible partner for Milford..

He's a far superior defender, kicker and organiser to Hunt.

Imagine Foran, Gillett, Roberts & Mead on the right edge.. So many points.

Nah. Of field matters. Don't want him.

I agree that they're concerning, but realistically he hasn't even had a second chance yet.. we just going with 1 strike policy now?

I doubt it, we've got James Roberts..

To me, getting on the piss and acting a fool isn't on the same level as the things being thrown at Foran and his mates.

Someone just said we are getting Tyrone Roberts to replace Hunt...Fkin hope not!

I'm baffled by the amount of people who want to get rid of Hunt. Absolutely perplexed. Short memories...

Lucky Wayne has a longer memory, and a much better eye for the game than the average punter!

Hunt and Milford aren't going anywhere.
I highly doubt that Wayne is happy with his halves, which is different entirely from wanting to move them on of course.

There's just no way that an experienced and knowledgeable operator like him, hasn't noticed the elephant in the room that is our (non-existent) attacking kicking game and 5th tackle management.

The question is whether he believes it can be fixed with this pairing...

I can think of nothing else that could be written on the whiteboard come pre-season training, which I'm predicted will be early for our guys this year. Bennett HAS to know it needs to be a focus. Get McC practicing 40/20's every fucking Monday.

McCullough's kicking game is not the issue with this team.

I'm sure the eels are interested in everyone off contract with the year they've had. Who haven't they been chasing in the last 5 years
