i agree with all of this caution, but for me the great news isn't that ST is going to be a Bronco for life (because as you've already stated, it may not turn out that way) but the fact that he is stating now that he wants to be a Bronco for life.

Having just missed the finals, and with talk of player unrest with the coach - Sam says he's happy and wants to stay as long as he can

This is good news - if the senior players had no faith in IH, Sam wouldn't want to stay

EXCELLENT point.
Really?
Maybe he just loves the Broncos, no matter who de coach is. I know I do! icon_thumbs_u
What about you? [icon_razz1

I'm a fan. I support them regardless. Players have a short career and want to get the best chance to do the best they can. If Sam thought Ivan was a shit coach he would consider leaving.

You're probably right about 99% of the players out there, but there are a few still that care enough to live with a bad coach or less pay (not a huge difference) than other clubs could offer them, as Lockyer did...
It wouldn't surprise me if Thaiday and Parker belong in that category!

Funny though, I actually know Sam's brother and back in 2006 especially, Sam was so pissed off with his treatment by Wayne Bennett that he nearly walked away then and there...

Maybe he appreciates the faith Ivan puts in him that Wayne didn't?

AuDragon - If Ivan somehow saved the world from ultimate destruction, you'd place all the credit into the inanimate object he used

Also Coxy is 100% right about Bennett/Thaiday, his mum had a number of frank discussions with Wayne about how her son was treated and it looked at some stages that Sam may leave the Broncos.

With WB you have to be patient sometimes... look what happened to Hodgo years back.

At the end of the day, it's not the be all and end all... you may leave and have a successful career but you can bet your bottom dollar Thaiday would have been in WB's long term plans.

If you are not patient however - Tame Tupou anyone?

Was Tame impatient?

I just thought he had problems acting like a professional and couldn't give up the drink so he walked out. Just on Tupou, he's surprisingly a fantastic speaker, reminds me a bit like Gorden, very quick and not shy at all. He's apparently headed to Redcliffe and he may even be training with the Broncos.

Kaine Manihera is another example, had potential, Bennett saw that but he wasn't prepared to become an NRL player.

Same with Wapau.

Gillett is an example of where a player had problems, sorted them out and made an impact.

Are you going to tell me that Sam didn't need a kick in the arse in 2006?
WB isn't the messiah, and he made a few mistakes in his career. One of them is how quick he expects players to mature, like Sammy or Dave Taylor for example.

We're now 4 years later, which would have attached him more to the club. Besides he is the best 2nd rower in the world, so it's not really hard to put faith in him, is it?

I don't get this excusing of Henjak's 2 successive years of comedy of errors, but people are ready to bag young players for a bad season or even a few games... [eusa_doh

No, I try to give credit where credit is due, albeit I can't always hide my bias. And I seriously dislike people who just bag for no good reason, without offering a credible alternative.

IH deserves credit for unearthing a few good players and I very much like the way he handles youthful mistakes.
As far as his caoch duties are concerned, his credit pretty much ends there as far as I'm concerned.

I could go on, but we already had this conversation in private, and I'm not going to hijack this topic... icon_thumbs_u

Pffft, Wallace isn't young :P

I just can't believe how vehemently anti-Henjak you are when you have NFI what he's like as a coach anyway!

I'm not judging Henjak's character, I can only judge Henjak's performance the way most people do:
By what his team does and more importantly, doesn't do on the paddock!
How often did you see the Broncos get on the field with a sense they knew what to do and what to expect from the opponent?

Another question would be, how many sides play like that? A lot of sides week in/week out just play their own style and rarely change it up.

You just have to look at teams like the Dragons, Panthers, Tigers, Titans etc. to see where I'm coming from.

The difference is between those sides and ours is personnel. We field A LOT of rookies and last year two of our key players (Wallace and Macca) played below themselves.

This thread is about Sammy being a Broncos for life not hating Henjak or Henjaks performance in the 2010 season,.
