Sharks drama on ABC 7.30 tonight

NRL will be next..

Cronulla on borrowed time.

As Buzz said, if the Sharks go anywhere in the finals and then get found to be as deep in it as Essendon, it will be humiliating for the game.

Imagine if the unthinkable happened and the Sharks broke their 46 year drought and won their first premiership...only to have to have it stripped off them for ASADA findings?

Gallen would cry like after losing Origin (again...and again...)..?

In all seriousness though, you're dead right. It's a poor reflection on the game. Really unimpressed with the administration this year, the game seems to be going backwards and at a rate of knots.

Yes but what if the NRL act and the ASADA findings are that they haven't done anything worth penalising?

Well the AFL have finalised there report and have made judgments. Why can the NRL not have done everything in its power to force this to happen quicker and force Cronulla to co-operate fully and swiftly? This is embarrassing for the NRL in this country.
I partially agree with you, the NRL say they are asking them to cooperate but I hope that's true and they are doing everything they can to wrap this up ASAP. It would definitely be embarrassing if they were adjudicated to be guilty after achieving a premiership or even playing any part in the finals.

They have clearly humiliated the sport regardless by the sheer fact the hired this fraud/hack Stephen Dank at their club. They are clearly guilty in someone whether knowingly or otherwise.

Yes, Dank is rank but it happened two years ago and really, what has that to do with 2013 ? By all means punish them financially for the offence of two years ago but how would it be fair to punish them and their supporters when no offence has been proven for this year ? Players of this season who were not even at the club would be punished when they joined a club without any knowledge of previous indiscretions .

Doesn't matter. You can't hand punishments retroactively, unless you can take away things that were won during the time the offence was committed, like what happened with the Storm.

In the Sharks case, the only way to punish the club, is to hit them where it hurts: financially and sportingly. Fine them exemplarly and take away their hard earned competition points. It not only serves as punishment, but as a future preventative measure.

Only way to actually give a footy club a proper punishment is by punishing them on the field. It would appear they gained an advantage on the field so therefore clearly they should by sanctions involving the team. By letting the team get off scot free you are basically letting them off completely regardless of the monetary punishment, they can pay that in the long run and fans will forget it but by punishing them on the field you actually draw a line in the sand and say this is what happens if you cheat.

Retrospectively ? You could reasonably argue for a financial punishment for 2011 but not for this season. They have committed no offence for this season nor has any offence been yet proven. Time will tell. Were Essendens players punished ?

Yes they were by having the finals stripped off them for a season of hard work. They also lose two seasons worth of first round draft picks, those are massive punishments on a footy team!

If a club is found to have cheated in the past then it should be punished in the present. Its the same organisation regardless of the contractors it employs. If the current staff, who were employed after that fact, feel it has wrongly infringed on their professional lives than they should be free to take legal action against the club.

Results based punishment is very important and if players are found to have been using PEDs this season the punishment should begin immediately.

Pretty sure the Storm were punished retrospectively.

ASADA are taking their time to avoid jumping the shark so to speak

Well it sounds like their evidence against Essendon was still pretty flimsy. Nothing against any players. I'm surprised by the level of punishment.

The whole thing was a joke.

I'd hazard a guess that the evidence was substantial but the most damaging was kept private to limit damage and to ensure compliance with the penalty. I was under the impression Essenden were going to fight tooth and claw to defend themselves , meekly they then allowed themselves to be tried by the very people making the accusations. Mmmmmm...suss.
