Should the Broncos renew Hunt's contract

What a crock of shit, Hunt has 4+ years of experience and 80+ more games of NRL to his name, that's why he's expected to be the primary playmaker, in almost all cases the more experienced player in the halves is the one expected to be the primary game manager.

The Pro-Hunt advocates are really running out of excuses for him lol

So while ever Milford has an older and more experienced halves partner, he is pretty much off the hook with on field responsibilities even though he is going to become the highest paid player on our team? So if we sacked Hunt and put a rookie in his position, whose responsibility would it be for leading the team around and general play kicking?

What we could do is something the opposition is NOT expecting... throw the player with the better short kicking game (I.e. Milford) the ball on the 5th.

That way when the entire team is racing up to put pressure on Hunt (since he always gets the ball on the 5th) Milford will have shit loads of time and space to move ... but instead of getting a try that space may open up, he would have to go for the better option and get a repeat set.

Not at all. Obviously a try is what we want. What we're saying is a repeat set is better than a 7 tackle set to the opposition.

No one thinks he's a good kicker, that doesn't mean there isn't a reason why. You just choose to not accept those reasons because of your blind hate for him.

This is the exact mentality that I have a problem with in regards to the Hunt debate, all of the "reasons" that the pro-Hunt advocates list (Similar to my satirical list above) for Hunt being poor at kicking all revolve around him never being at fault, for once I just want to see someone who's on the opposite side of the fence say "Yeah, Hunt is really bad at kicking, and whilst there's circumstances that are making it marginally harder for him to be successful as a primary playmaker, he really just needs to improve that part of his game"

Hunt actually kicks pretty good when Milford and McCullough help him out in games. When that happens, our whole team plays better. Maybe that's the key. Get Milf and Macca to help him out so he isn't pretty much pressured every kick.

It's obviously not closed, because others don't agree with you. I'm not arguing with you, he's a shit kicker. I do agree that his shit kicking game means absolutely nothing when he grabs the ball, and plants it over the line, which he does quite a bit.

I'm not Hunt fan, just like you, I think we need to be looking at other options, but they would want to be as good as Hunt in every aspect of the game that he excels at. But others on the drop Hunt side of the fence are going stupid. Like actually considering someone like Sandow to replace him. Or simply not being able to move on from the fact we let Taylor go, even if he's had one good season, which lets face it, many rookies have not been able to back up.

Getting someone who can kick a good grubber and manage a bit better, but is shit at everything else won't help a thing. Then people will just complain that Player X is rubbish at X, Y, and Z, we should have never let Hunt go.

Anyone ever consider the origin ban affected him? He 2015 he was right in line for a halves spot with cronk out. They opted for another guy. 2016 preseason emerging camp and he's banned from playing for a year. Got to affect his mental side a bit. Motivation the same? Entirely new centre to have to get used to playing with. Hodges probably helped Hunt out a lot bring his captain and so experienced.. would have always been in his ear.. then everything would have went quiet with roberts waiting for someone to tell him what to do as the new kid on the block..
Another reason I'm backing hunt to have his biggest year yet. He's got stability around him now. Consistency. He'll grow a lot this off season

If Nashy was faster, fitter, talented, could kick and pass a ball really well, had the right attitude, and trained hard, I would consider him to replace Hunt.

For some people, the above sentence now means I would consider replacing Hunt with Nashy...

FTR, the reason I focus on Hunt instead of Milford, is that I believe the latter still has a steep learning curve, while I don't believe Hunt will get much better. It's funny though, that people actually use Milford to excuse Hunt's flaws, instead of the opposite...

P.S. I hope Hunt proves me wrong. No one will be happier than I if that actually happens!

Id keep Hunt. He's proven himself. No he doesn't have a great kicking game but other areas make up for that IMO. He does some silly stuff like kicking on the 3rd tackle inside the opposition 20 but if he loses that from his game he would go a long way to being a really good 7

Giving away 7 tackle sets isn't our problem at all. In fact I'd say we are one of the best teams in the league for in that respect.

I'm happy for our halves to try and score on the 5th rather than just give the ball back. We don't have a kicker with the accuracy of Cronk, so an attacking kick, with the chance to either score a try or force an error in the contest, is not really an option.

However, it's simply not possible to score a try in every situation. This is where BOTH our halves need to improve. Our 'Plan B' is our glaring weakness on 5th tackles. The ability to drop the ball on the toe and roll it 3 or 4m into the in-goal area really is a must. I have no doubt that Hunt can do it, he just needs to make the decision faster so as to not get caught in a forest of legs.

I don't want the halves to play away from their strengths, but they do need to get better at realising when their preferred play isn't the right one. If Hunt can do that, I see no reason why he can't be our halfback for the rest of his career.

We score in the opposition 20 more than any other team in the nrl. So why not try to score every time we have ball in hands. Hunt does have a great long kicking game and that's all we need. Hunt never gets repeat sets because he doesn't give himself room or time, but who cares if they turn the ball over in the teams 10.

This "affected his mental state being left out of origin" thing is bulldust.

People get passed over for promotions all the time. They get sidelined, they get disciplined, they get told they're the 'next big thing' in the workplace and they get banned. The rest of the population sucks it up and gets on with it - why can't players, who get paid $400,000 per year do the same as the average joe who gets paid $65,000. For a lot of people, getting passed over or screwed over in the workplace means they either a) leave or b) strive to learn and do better, and inevitably get through the other side better off.

So, let's humour the idea that Hunt or Milford have 'scars' from being banished from Origin. They happily pocketed the increased dollar bucks they received from their stellar 2014-15 seasons and just need to get on with it. Especially Hunt, who is <8 years from retirement and needs to get on and play.

We'll support him because he's not an average player - he just needs to get with it and win the comp and dominate with his partner, who is the biggest thing in NRL ever produced in the past 4 years.

To be fair, Hunt's short kicking game isn't just a "little off", it's one of the worst in the NRL, and he's had 5 years to improve it and hasn't much, if at all.

It really shouldn't take half a decade to improve a stock standard skill for Halfbacks, especially for someone as skilled as he is.
