If you introduce a rule change then need to introduce another rule change to counter the effects of the original rule change... Then clearly you have ****ed up.

Just remove the original rule change, that none of your fan base like anyway

If the argument to getting rid of the 6 again rule is that the wrestling will come back... well there is a solution to that too.

Penalty, penalty, penalty, penalty

Teams won't keep wrestling if they give away 20 penalties a game. There would only be excessive penalty counts for 6 months.

The NRL would just need the balls to see it through and not give in a few weeks into the season because the media are whinging and Melbourne are losing

Hound racing moron and his sidekick has ruined the game by introducing stupid rule changes and this dumbfcuk has implemented them

I’m honestly waiting for someone to file a class action against these stooges. If not for the love towards Bronx, I would have given up on the game few years back.

I only watch Broncs game and have done since 2021 ruined league.

i think it's just a shame how it's more like wwf than a real sport these days, manufactured and lopsided draw, etc etc

they dont even pretend that it's a fair competition

best to remember that it's just a business at the end of the day $$$$$$$$$$$$

If you believe that to be true though, you must also have a hollow feeling about last year's premiership as it was manufactured and predetermined.

that's not what i said, just that some teams get a better draw than other teams because they make their decisions based on bums on seats/viewers

how do they decide who plays which team twice in the season and who doesnt?

What gets me is it seems alot of the time we are being held down the ref says " get up " or " milking" ....I don't get it

Was the game ever really broken? I hear this a lot that the justification for this farce was the game was broken but was it? I thought it was going fine up until 2021 where since then it has looked less and less like the game we've grown up watching and loving. The NRL, well basically Vlandal and his ventriloquist dummy like to spout data, often not really relevant, to show things have improved, etc but is it actually true?

I'd still like to see actual data from these apparent focus groups that said they wanted six agains, etc because I doubt they exist. Every rule change under Hitler has putely been to allow for more and more game manipulation not for any other reason.

It was never broken. But Vlandys knew how much betting companies were making from the game, but more importantly, how much more money they could be making.

Even if there is absolutely zero bias in the weird, erratic, and unexplainable shit that we've seen, it still works for betting companies. Because it makes games more unpredictable. We've seen times where spoon teams all of a sudden come out of a 4-loss streak to out of nowhere beat a premiership favourite, then return to losing by 30+ against plodders the next week. So punters have the confidence to throw decent money at stupid long shots because they've seen it happen.

Of course this takes away from the integrity of a professional sport, where the best teams within the rules should come away with the victories.

Imagine how many more ads the winning rights bidder can jam in with all the new 6-again inspired tries. Just a coincidence, of course.

I don't remember there being a huge outcry - the media was too busy trying to get Bennett sacked or you had a weird Foxtel vs. Nine rivalry brewing over Gus at Penrith that usually dominated the headlines.

STILL, there was a FoxLeague podcast with Warren Smith & Lara Pitt where they talked about a lack of tries. Smith is clued in and was raising how few tries were scored and how it was trending downwards. I remember he blamed it on Melbourne and then went into his history with Bellamy where they had a falling out over Waz calling it out on one of his shows.

Every now and then if Melbourne beat a sacred cow like the Rabbitohs they'd bring out the ol 'Storm cheated! wrestling sucks!!' talking points but the NRL were pretty feckless until V'landys came in.

I don't think it's a black and white argument. I think fans appreciate that they finally have somebody who is willing to take action and drag the competition kicking and screaming. Of course you have the rusted ons, but that comes with the territory. There were fans who hated the changes made in 81 when the game came down harshly on foul play, there were fans in the 60s who hated limited tackles etc.

Putting my cynical hat on for a second…. punters are more likely to put 3+ x anytime tryscorers in a multi if there are 10+ tries per game.
This. Also becuase there is so many tries now the good outside backs are constantly at $1.80 and under anytime, good backrowers $3-$4, so people absolutely are putting more players in and failing.

Fair points. It would just be nice I think if they can eventually swing back to not going overboard with them. I also think the NRL could learn from the ESL in not overusing them.
