ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA DRAGONS v PARRAMATTA EELS *SPOILERS*

The tough thing would be mentally preparing for the Dragons game, THEN having to once again back up that mental preparation against the other best side in Melbourne and FINALLY mentally prepare for the Grand Final. Huge ask.

The boys will be up don't you worry about that . We should be confident not scared people we knocked off the Dragons a few weeks back and we all know the Broncos are september specialists.

Yeah, the McInDIRE system is ridiculous.

It is, but even if we had the AFL finals system, chances are we'd still be playing the Dragons anyway, so it's all rather moot.

The biggest failing of the McIntyre system is the Storm v Manly game. Winner gets the week off, loser goes out. For a 4th v 5th game the difference is far too massive. Manly must also be livid at that shocking decision in Robina this year. That decision has effectively seen them bow out this week (not that it's a bad thing).

I agree completely, a few years ago a similar thing happened with Penrith vs Dragons although that game was decided only by one point. Penrith got a week off and Dragons got eliminated. Huge difference.

You could argue that Lyon's multiple suspect tries against us could have seen them bow out - without those it may have been them taking on the Titans, who they owned just one week earlier.

^^ Conversely, the Dogs losing those points against the Panthers and THAT video ref decision worked out rather well. Instead of playing the Eels, they got the Knights. As a result, they are all but certain grand finalists.

Definitely, particularly taking into account the Kimmorley factor. Chances are they'd be knocked out if they had to play without him again next week.

Which is why the McIntyre system is not rewarding at all. Everyone talks about it every year at this time and I've never been a fan of it. Back a few years ago the top four teams were usually far ahead of the competition - hence 8 never beat 1 and only on the absoulte rare occasion did 7th beat 2nd. These days the competition is a lot weaker and this is the result of it all.

I don't like it.

1 and 2 are rewarded thou. they cant get knocked out week 1. And a Home Final.

3 and 4 rarely get knocked out. And they get a home final.

Under the AFL system, 1-4 cannot get knocked out in week 1. Teams finishing 3rd and 4th would either have a week off or a home final the following week. McIntyre isn't in the same hemisphere as the AFL finals system.

I think Manly would have been eliminated anyway under the AFL's system... because that would have been

(5) Manly vrs (8) Parramatta - loser eliminated

There's nothing wrong with Manly being eliminated. It's the fact that the team that beats them gets a week off and a home final in week 3. The discrepancy between risk and reward for that Friday night game is just way too big. Beside, if Manly won, it'd be the Storm who'd be out this week, which certainly wouldn't have been possible under the AFL System.

The AFL got rid of the McIntyre system because it wasn't fair, yet we are still using it.

That is because Manly lost - if they won, it would have looked really bad.

One problem with the AFL system, is that if results go as predicted (ie all higher ranked teams win) you get 1 v 3 and 2 v 4 in the preliminary final, theoretically giving team 2 an easier path to the grand final.

Ah well, we would have had to beat the Dragons eventually and we know how to beat them now. They will be desperat to bounce back but I think the Dragons have been found desperately short of a Plan B, if you rattle or pressure Soward he and Hornby don't have the ammo to put a score on you.

Ahhh, I see what you have done there, clever!

Ps. McIntyre or no McIntyre, we'd still have to play some damn hard games, and unless we hold Dragons to under 16, a win is very unlikley imo.

If we can't beat them, then we don't deserve to be in the GF anyway.

+1. We have to do the hard yards eventually and we have proven that we can beat them.

Also, what's it say about the Dragons, that they got beaten by number 8?

Exactly what I said yesterday whilst watching the game. Soward went missing in patches, but Hornby was MIA virtually the entire game.

I can't believe that Parra are now second favourites to win the comp after that game though. They showed nothing yesterday that convinced me they could beat Melbourne, the dogs with Kimmorley back, or even us for that matter. St George handed them that game, both sides were pathetic, the eels were just lucky that the dragons were far more pathetic.
