Stagg Returns to Brisbane Broncos

Yeah I am not sure why Thorn and Carroll made that list.

Maybe he meant when TC came out of retirement to play? Was never a fan of that move tbh. But if he didn't mean that, then I too don't agree.

Even then, that wasn't the club actively going out to pursue TC, that was Hodges going out of his way to bring TC back because the club was a rabble. Even then, TC was cheap and handy coming off the bench in our trek into the finals.

Even Carlaw was handy last year especially around representative season. We certainly missed having a player of his experience this year IMO.

I like Stagg but I just don't understand what the club is doing.

I think the club is doing the best it can with whats available on the market right now ... It's slim pickings this off season in terms of marquee players who're off contract .. Scotty Prince has just 'fallen off the back of a truck' so to speak and is the best available recruit for the Broncos for 2013 in terms of putting some zing into their halves - so they picked him up.

David Stagg was available, Ben T'eo was gone ... the price was right, the guy can play, so why not grab him ?

At the end of the day the Broncos will be better served with these guys playing for them next season than not.

Just get him making tackles non-stop, which would firstly tighten up our poor defence in the middle, second it would lessen the workload for our other forwards, making them more effective in attack, and thirdly it could mean there is less chance of someone like Lui playing.

Once upon a time every club that was successful had blokes who were hard as nails, 1 through 17 but that hasn't been the case for years. These days you need a blend of those type and the worker type. Dave Stagg is tough enough without being a Gillespie or Tunks, or anyone of the thousands of tough as old boots guys from a bygone era. He has always been good enough to get picked each week in competitive NRL sides and still is. Getting him at a good rate because it suits both he and us is wonderful. I know he will add to the Broncs and was sorry when he left just like I was when another ,Ash Harrison did the same.

Welcome back Dave and hope you retire with a premiership in 2013/14 !!

Yes, he and Ash Harrison are built from the same mould.

I'm getting the sense that either Thaiday or Parker might be shuffled into the front row rotation at some point this year.

I don't think we'd lose much with Parker in the front row rotation to be honest.

I don't think we'd lose too much with our captain dropped either...

Hand Prince the goalkicking duties..

8. Hannant
9. McCullough
10. McGuire
11. Glenn
12. Thaiday
13. Parker.

20 min rotation ->
13. Parker
9. McCullough
10. McGuire
11. Glenn
12. Thaiday
15. Stagg

30 min rotation

12. Thaiday
9. McCullough
16. Hala/Dodds
11. Glenn
17. Gillett
15. Stagg

50 min rotation

8. Hannant
14. Hunt
10. McGuire
11. Glenn
17. Gillett
13. Parker

60-75
12. Thaiday
9. McCullough
10. McGuire
11. Glenn
15. Stagg
13. Parker

Or something like that.

Parker moving to the front row would most likely mean Gillett moving to middle third lock, and his decline will likely continue.

No, I'd have Stagg came into the middle when Parker moves up front.
Gillett onto the right fringe to replace Thaiday who IMO is better served only playing 60-65 minutes.

That said, I'd prefer Corey on the field for 80. He does so much work in defence... got us on lock down

Which can work IMO. Although becoming "prop" would probably mean he'd have to do more work than he already does. But we'll see.

I just don't see how much value we can get out of the likes of Stagg and Gillett off the bench when we have Glenn and Parker playing 80 minutes in the back row anyway. Sharing 80 minutes among Thaiday, Stagg and Gillett isn't going to work.

Stagg didn't try and catch the same ball as beale went up for did he. Keeps the bronco chin alive...
