State of Origin Game II - NSW vs QLD

Hunt is rightly copping it but where was Munster. We only needed 1 half to stand up and own the last 15 mins.
Hunt IMO was not horrible overall but his big moment plays were bottom shelf. We played well enough to get that close despite the bad calls again but we just don't have the quality to finish off.

Billy probably had to be the one to take over but the set up for that Hunt kick was all wrong. Blind side with 5 on 5, 1 marker and 6 defenders covering huge ground on the open where their centre was missing and we have G I. Even if Hunt steps inside, the hole behind the ruck was huge, if he takes the tackle we have a 1 man advantage on the open and a perfect time to run a block play.

Smith Thurston or Cronk would know that before the play. Go right , they have to be short left on the next play it really isn't complicated.

Ben Hunt was absolutely dreadful. I'd like to hear him explain why he put a grubber into the in goal on the 3rd tackle when they had just been reduced to 12 players. Was just inexplicable.

Because he and Chambers are idiots. We could have easily spent five minutes down there, came away with the required points to win the game and defend it for the last few minutes, but these two morons went looking for miracle plays every set QLD were in the red zone.

*then fails to recognize hunts poor game*

Brilliant.

I never said he didn't make mistakes. Or that his kick towards the end was not a massive killer. But blaming him for the loss is just a convenience that is too easy for some to pass up.

Hard to have a chance to own the game when dead head shits keep dropping the ball or kicking it on the third tackle. Munster was fine. If Hunt had run the ball a few times close to the line, he probably scores the match winner. But because he's a first class big game choker, he takes the dumb option.

No one blames him.

We blame him AND Chambers.

Those two literally cost QLD the game and series.

We probably would have seen Munster if Hunt didn't kick the ball the 3rd against the side of the field that hadn't lost the fucking player. Where were the runners trying to get to the ball? No where because the only motherfucker in the world that would think someone would kick the ball there is Ben Motherfucking Hunt.

The anger has faded, and all I'm left with is pity for Hunt.

On the flip side, what a dig by Ponga. For a debut in such an intense game, he was quite something. The Milf/Ponga combo in the years to come will scare the shit out of NSW. Ponga made a bad mistake playing at that ball, but I can forgive that because of the guts he showed all night.

Agree on that. IMO it was the perfect introduction for Ponga to Origin. There was no where for him to fit in to the backline without disrupting the combinations, so he was thrown in to the fire and made to acclimatise. And he can hold his head high. Now he knows what it's all about, he'll be far better for it when he does get the #1 jersey.

He gave away a penalty try, made the error that gave them the field position for Mitchell's try, made multiple nothing kicks that killed momentum and couldn't exploit a 1 man advantage despite being the chief playmaker.

Was every single missed tackle, handling error and bad kick on him? No. Did he fail in his job as halfback and largely contribute to our defeat? Yes.

Papali ?did he play ? Wallace was terrible and Hunt was abysmal. I screamed when the fucktard kicked it dead on the third tackle against 12 men. How hard is it to play 12 ? Two up the guts and then spread side to side, sooner or later you open a gap. Should have won by 12 or more, Inglis didn't seem to grasp the moment and put them in their place, leading by example is okay up to a point but fucktards need to be told what to do.

Wallace and Hunt dropped and Slater told to retire, no not because he was poor, he wasn't but we need unproven players to get one dead rubber origin under the belt. In fact, there's probably 4 or 5 players we need to give exposure to the cauldron. Never know, a winning feeling at Suncorp might reap dividends down the track.

I saw quite a few times munster asking wtf to hunt and some other players.

I thought Munster was ok, tried too hard at times and was running first before passing. He was setting up a block play on the open and was expecting the ball judging by his reaction when Macca went the other way but we had 13 mins left when Roberts was binned and hardly fired a shot.

Please don't get the impression I am defending Hunt, I'm not, I was a DCE advocate because Hunt doesn't handle big moments.

Chambers would do it too I reckon.

I note NSW packed a 5 man scrum when Jimmy was in the bin. I didn't think you could do that, I thought they can only pack less than 6 is when it's because of injury?

Depleted pack 3. The 3-2-1 formation is compulsory if six forwards pack down.
If injuries deplete the team, the back three forwards may be
withdrawn to give 3-2-0, 3-1-0 or 3-0-0 formations (subject to
there being no more than seven backs – see para 3 above).

Well all that is fine, just let us know who the other options are, because like it or lump it, someone has to play 7 for Queensland in two weeks time and the ONLY fit, in form option with any sort of experience at this level is DCE.

If that's all we have, Hunt can play.

On another note I haven't had a whinge about Maloneys play the ball, HOW THE **** WAS THAT NOT PENALISED????
Not close to a legitimate play the ball yet NSW get full advantage AGAIN.
Just once I'd like to get the rub of the green with decisions, just fucking once would be nice and not in a dead rubber but like how those ***** get penalties to help them down field, not the square up ones we get on tackle 1 5 mtrs out.
So far they have scored off a forward pass, double movement/ dropped ball take your pick, illegal play the ball and we had 1 try sent up as try and incorrectly over ruled.

Moving on now.

Yes.......you think we would have had to of have had some kind of plan or strategy in place to prevent that from happening. Either someone retired out of turn or QLD management have NFI what they are doing.
It's the former.

One good thing for every two stupid? Mate, you need go self-medicate and lie down.

Hunt makes crucial tackles every game, particularly on his own line, but people forget that out of convenience. Cleary didn't do much of anything - if Hunt was that quiet people would have been tearing him a new one for not injecting himself in to the game.

Right now Hunt is our Pearce. He's the best we have, but because he's not an immortal, people want to throw him under the bus and pick whoever threw a nice pass two weeks earlier. DCE is the only replacement I could fathom, and even then I'd be wondering what it is that has the selectors so wary of him.

The full insanity is people advocating for Taylor with a straight face.
No, Hunt was poor and he was trying ! He did make some good tackles and he did try hard but he is very ordinary at times. As a senior player he should have known better than to kick it dead on the third from 20 out when what was needed was 5 and a dink in behind the line against 12 men. He should also simply have turned to his right directly in front of Cordner and started(attempted) to chase after the ball toed through. He would have effectively impeded Cordners run without conceding a bullshit penalty try, the first in 37 years of Origin.

He was so bad the Courier Mail openly and correctly slagged him. BrittleBen must never embarass Qld again.

Next year (and probably game 3), I’d go:

1. Ponga
2. Holmes
3. Gagai
4. Morgan (this is such a problem spot)
5. Gagai
6. Munster
7. Milford
8. Napa
9. McCullough (another huge problem spot, the gulf in class between Smith and Macca is huge)
10. Scott
11. Su’A
12. Gillett
13. Arrow

14. Oates
15. Papalii
16. Ofahengaue
17. McGuire

Nice team. I’d personally start McGuire at prop (Scott is a cooked chook), Munster to centre (he was basically playing like one last night. The jury is out on all Melbourne players/ coaching staff without Smith: he and Chambers looked worse without him), Morgan to hb (and pray he rediscovers his 2017 form), milf to 6.
