Stuart's outburst - disgraceful

It definetly is. The ARL had Bellyache already primed to go, but see Mal giving up QLD as a better chance of them winning Origin.

They tried to start an "outlaw the high ball on 5th tackles" which never caught on, now this.

Pathetic NSW at their worst.

Next it will be steve price not allowed to play for qld and aus!

It's all a ploy to weaken the QLD stranghold on SoO.

Think I'm a consiracy nut? Ask yourself why they would offer it to Mal. Firstl, he said coaching QLD is too much strain on his buisness, then after he has signed for 3 more years, the ARL suddenly have an interest in him, oh but then they mention they don't want a SoO coach doing the job.

So basically they are saying; "We want you Mal, but we want you to quit QLD coaching".
eusa_think [icon_shady It definitely smells...they don't have a problem with a Sharks coach, but now all of a sudden they have a problem with a QLD coach? Since when did it ever have to be "even" blues and maroons in the aussie team? I've only ever thought that there had to be more blue than maroon.... [icon_shru

In all fairness, Stuart was forced to give up the NSW coaching job to take on the Australian job. The last coach that was able to hold both state and national coaching position was Wayne Bennett in 1998...and he resigned from both positions at the end of that season.

Wayne Bennett was also coaching the Broncos - 3 teams = too much, 2 teams = ok.

Wayne has said on many occasions in recent years that coaching a rep team is too much of a burden if you've also got a club to coach. Club coaching isn't just February to October, it's a 12 months of the year job.

Plus he was saying rep coaching isn't just about, say, May to July for Origin - it's also all year round scouting eligible talent etc.

However, I can see State and National coaching working together OK. Both involve keeping an eye on talent eligible and ensuring development and duty of care at the clubs of those players. It just means he has to watch more players (plus he gets to watch cockroaches while he does it for Australia).

It's good to see Mal's said if Australia wants him, they have to let him coach Queensland too until such time as he wants to give one or the other away.

I was also happy to hear Mal say staying on as Qld coach was non-negotiable if he is offered the Aust position. And also agree that it can definitely work being both a SOO and National Coach for the reasons Coxy has mentioned. I don't think any rep head coaching job really works in tandem with a club head coach job these days.

Also, just how much say does the national coach have in the selections? I thought he was just one of the selection panel and gets 1 vote the same as the others on the panel. So I don't really think the potential bias of 1 person is an issue. Obviously on a tour or over the course of a tournament then match day selections are up to the coach, but I am sure the assistant coaches and maybe even the captain would also get a say.

And all this talk of bias makes me sad/mad because when you get right down to it accusations of bias is really questioning is someone's personal integrity.

Accusations of bias make me LOL. Selecting a football team doesn't have hard and fast KPIs and criteria to get a score and then take the highest scorers into each position.

It's a SELECTIVE process, hence their title being SELECTORS. It's their OPINION what the best makeup of the team is. They are not there to pick the BEST player in each position, they are there to pick the BEST team.

Is it bias? Of course it is! They will prefer one player over another in a certain position because they've seen them perform better with other players on occasion...even if the other player might be better individually.

People should just GTFOI.

Are you sure about that? Everything I have heard and read says Fearnley was the last in 1985 when he was NSW and Aust coach and dropped 4 Qlders and replaced them with 4 of his NSW players in the team which was completely disastrous and the reason why the ARL adopted a policy of can't do both.

Once again bloody cockroaches ruining it for everyone.

I ask the question but am inclined to put more faith in Coxy's knowledge than all the media combined.

It was Bennett in 98 after the then AUS coach (I think Bozo?) quit for personal reasons.

Correct dukey, gold star for zhou!

How come you agreed with me over the insane selections of so many Manly "forwards" in this WC team? Or the inclusion of Gallen?

The Aussie WC pack was a typically biased selection and the nation suffered because of it.

That said, Mal won't be biased in his selections because QLD'ers are above said antics. History doesn't lie.

I complained because they were shit selections. Bias had nothing to do with it (well, Gallen maybe, he's an absolute powderpuff).

They were shit selections. Especially when certain QLD'ers weren't selected. You think bias was wrong in that example?

Yes and no. As I said, selections are selective. Therefore, personal bias is part of it. However, I don't think it was a case of "We're not going to pick queenslanders in those positions".
