Stuart's outburst - disgraceful

Elias is saying Mal would be biased towards QLDers.

Someone please, slap that clown silly. F**king idiot.

What rep side did Sticky coach of before the Kangaroos job? I'm kind of blurry there...they wore blue jerseys and played some sort of interstate series?

Let's not get started on one A. Tupou.

I agree with Elias as much as to say, that if you are currently coaching a state side you shouldn't coach the kangaroos because there will be bias toward the players you are coaching in from your state at that time. I have also been an advocate for a coach not holding a fulltime head coach role in the NRL as the national coach because that way they can concentrate on it and it alone and no one can claim they are biased to anyone. I would like to see Langer or Lam or someone who is an assistant but has experience in coaching and in playing at that level.

Joey Johns for coach!!!

Well he fits my description. I just want someone who is not affiliated as heavily with a team either state or club as a head coach is. Johns would be a great choice if/when he has his personal situation completely sorted as he has a massive amount to offer.

Joey's game plan:

Don't cough up the pill. Stick it under your tongue and swallow quickly.

Ive been waiting for this for 3 years. Stuart is a shit coach with a group of super-stars to make him loook the part. Good riddance. Just like my feelings on Ricky Ponting as captain. Shit captain. Made to look good by his wealth of talent.

...and I'm fast starting to feel that way about Bellamy, too.

Oh big time mick. Although in Bellamy's defence he at least played a part in developing most of his stars.

But yeah, not a coach's arsehole when it comes to GF day. Bennett would've won 3 straight premierships with that team list, easily.

Absolutely.

Though i don't think he did as much as everyone claims.

Sitting at Bishop Park quite a few years ago, it was evident to all and sundry (of the 80 people there) that the likes of Greg Inglis and Cam Smith were going to be something very, very special.

Well yes, but same could be said of D. Lockyer, S. Renouf, K. Hunt etc...

Seriously no matter who gets the gig, they are going to have some allegience to some team in their past and will be accused of bias at some point, so all this "Well he coaches Qld, he'll be biased towards Qld players" or "He coaches the Sharks, he'll be biased towards Sharks players" is irrelevant. Johns, whilst not currently playing or coaching anywhere will be accused of being biased towards NSW/Newcastle players anyway.

And Mal - whilst he is saying he wants to do it, the ARL seem pretty adamant that one can not be both a SOO and Aust coach at the same time (which would also rule out Bellamy) and he has just recently signed a 3 year contract to coach Qld - the QRL would have to release him. I am also not so sure he is the best man for the job. He quite openly admits that he doesn't really do the coaching at Qld, Neil Henry is the coach and Mal is the figurehead, so would he also need to bring along Henry and the rest of the Qld coaching staff into the Aust positions in order to be successful there? Just some thoughts.

I say give the job to Gus.

Are you being serious Flutterby? Because that isn't a terrible suggestion. Warren Ryanis another who could fit the bill as well. I wouold just prefer someone not currently with anyone because of the bias rubbish that will get leveled at whomever they are.

Hell yeah I'm serious - I think Gus' penchant to be controversially outspoken and play up to his media "villian" image has led to him being seriously under-rated as a coach. The guy has an amazing footy brain and he tends to have a good rapport with his players - especially the very best ones, which is what we will have in the Aust team. And yeah, Wok would definitely be another great choice. Unfortunately I don't think the ARL board are smart enough to see it (also don't think either of them would take it if offeren; more's the pity). I agree it should be someone without a current or extremely recent and obvious allegience to anyone. I also think that not having an NRL job in particular should be a requirement in order for them to focus entirely on the national job.

It's all a ploy to weaken the QLD stranghold on SoO.

Think I'm a consiracy nut? Ask yourself why they would offer it to Mal. Firstl, he said coaching QLD is too much strain on his buisness, then after he has signed for 3 more years, the ARL suddenly have an interest in him, oh but then they mention they don't want a SoO coach doing the job.

So basically they are saying; "We want you Mal, but we want you to quit QLD coaching".

I agree hammo, this is the blues plotting the downfall of the might maroons by stealing there coach!

Yeah, it's probably not actually.

Just throwing it out there.
