Round 1: Dragons 9 - Broncos 7

I think it is easy to see that the refs are under instructions to make games close. Nearly all the penalty counts that we won were games where we lost (except bulldogs game). While games where we were looking to blow out the team we lost the penalty count badly (Cows, Roosters).

A bunch of the penalties we were getting in those games were in the attacking red zone, which is the worst place to get penalties in probably. It doesn't help that they are usually before tackle 3 or whatever of the set, whereas we often don't even begin properly attacking until tackle 4.

On the flip side, North Queensland have only lost 2 penalty counts all year (against the Storm in Melbourne and Tigers at Leichhardt) drawn 1 and and won 9. If anyone deserves a penalty moniker it’s that team but we all know we don’t let facts get in the way of a good story. Probably the fact that rabble at the moment is sitting second last with a 3-9 record means the public are feeling sorry for them and JT because he won’t get his send off
