Hey I'm as in favour of seeing Souths go as anyone, but to say they were the most useless team EVER is a joke. They've won more premierships than any other club!

Don't undersell what they HAVE meant to the game. Just because they're irrelevant now doesn't write off that history.

So merge Say.. Manly and The Dragons Move them to sunny coast.
Merge Panthers And Eels move them to NZ
Merge Roosters and Rabbits leave them stay
Merge Panthers and Sharks let them stay

12 team comp

I think the Panthers players will get really tired playing 2 games every weekend

Sorry I wasn't born 31 or so years ago when they won a premiership and I have only seen them be in the finals once, good em though got some premierships in a comp where the same team would dominate for 10 years (ala St George) and no cap.

 Ignorant people aren't going to help motivate clubs to do the right thing by the game. It'll just make them more pissed off about it.

I care about rugby league clubs who are losing 4 million a year and are get the spoon ever year or 2 are not helping the game.

Seems you care about those clubs about as much as you care about the English language.

I'd suggest the NRL should can all 16 teams and then open up 16 new licences in the following places

NSW - Wollongong, Liverpool, St Mary's/Penrith, Bondi, Sydney, Central Coast & Newcastle
QLD - Brisbane, Gold Coast, Townsville & Ipswich
Others - Auckland, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide & Perth

This way the NRL can accept the most suitable application for each of the new licences without having to show preference to the old clubs

Given the Steelers barely survived pre-merger with the Dragons I doubt Wollongong could support a team by themselves these days. By canning the teams as you suggest you're ignoring the fact that Parramatta (though it pains me to say it) are one Sydney club who has no trouble existing by themselves in terms of finances and junior talent.

Nothing I have suggested would stop Parramatta from putting forward their claim for one of the licences maybe Sydney, if they are infact in a good financial position then they would be considered quite highly when the NRL makes it's decsions.

Having lost $7m in the last 18 months with your leagues club does not seem such a strong position financially though?

I believe Parramatta try to keep the football club and leagues club operations separate. I don't think the football club relies on leagues club grants the way some other Sydney clubs do (eg Penrith).

From that report linked in this thread, St George seem to have a very healthy bank balance and no debt. It seems their only real financial drain is the Illawarra side of the operation, so I can see them dissolving that arrangement sooner rather than later.

On the counter to that, they are moving their home games to Kogarah next year, which is a shit ground in a shit location.

I think, long term, Sydney needs to follow the AFL lead in Melbourne and have all games played in Sydney played at a couple of quality venues. SFS is obvious, although it has its faults.

ANZ Stadium simply isn't good enough as a league venue, and is too large for club games. They need to build another rectangular ground somewhere in Sydney for use for league, union and soccer.

Their hands will be forced if the AFL do manage to buy ANZ Stadium! I wouldn't doubt that they would let league hire it for Origin and Grand Finals, but they wouldn't want to waste their time with 9000 at a Bulldogs vs Sharks game for example.

they should upgrade one of the outer suburb stadiums the Dragons or Tigers Stadium even the Panthers.

Panthers too far away. Campbelltown is a fair way out too, but not unreasonable. Growth area of Sydney too.

i didnt see any mention of the raiders i know they arnt a sydney club but still, hope we dont lose them i enjoy the raiders

Raiders are having to deny reports they're looking to relocate to Queensland. I guess the fact their main feeder team is Souths Logan is conjuring those rumours.

So How long till NRL HQ relocate to brisbane :P

Cut teams, don't cut teams. Merge, don't merge. [icon_shru

The problem with RL is the short sightness of the governing bodies....especially the one in Sydney.

The NSWRL/ARL/NRL has shown time and time again that it isn't interested in trying to grow the game, which is why RL will eventually die and be played in the backwaters (where Hammo will still be on a hill watching.) Proof of this was the Western Reds, a state that has the third highest junior RL player figures, they decided to not give a team or invest in.

Sabu, is this true?
NZ and the pacific Islands have the biggest pool of untapped Rugby talent. How hard is it to pour millions into the juniors there? Not rocket science. RL has a definite fan base in Auckland and to a lesser extent Wellington, if the kids there were flashed real coin, who knows what could become.

I understand expansion should be approached cautiously, however, less teams, whilst spreads the talent thicker, doesn't equate to growth. If the game is growing, it's dying.

I would much rather see a heavily subsidised NZ or Pacific Island solution, than see the same old mediocre teams in Sydney.
