BRONCOS’ fans will finally get a look at their new halves combination under proper match circumstances this Saturday in Cairns.

Brodie Croft and Anthony Milford have been named to pair up against the Cowboys in what will be their first time together in a 13-a-side team.

They did play together in the NRL Nines in Perth last week, but only in one short 18-minute game after Milford was rested as a precaution with hamstring tightness in the Broncos’ second Nines match.

Any suggestion of a hamstring problem is in the rear-view mirror for Milford now after he linked with Croft for a full session at training today.

Former Gold Coast Titan Jesse Arthars will get his chance to lay down his credentials when he starts in the centres on Saturday at Barlow Park.

Arthars played in the Nines but will start against the Cowboys, with Darius Boyd rested after playing half a game against the Central Capras in Rockhampton last weekend.

Xavier Coates gets his opportunity to vie for a wing spot after missing the trip to Perth because of a hamstring issue – the same fate that befell Broncos’ captain Alex Glenn.

Glenn will lead out the Broncos in Cairns, partnering Ethan Bullemor in the back row.

David Fifita is not in the squad because of his participation in the concurrent All Star match on the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Jake Turpin will start at hooker with Cory Paix coming off the bench, while Andrew McCullough will be given the week off after blowing out the cobwebs with 40 minutes in Rockhampton last Saturday.

So the ten missing players are: Boyd, Oates, Kahu, Perese, Vudogo, O'Sullivan, Lodge, Palasia, Fifita & McCullough.

Oates, Kahu, O'Sullivan & Palasia are all dealing with injuries. Perese is obviously being stood down & Fifita has All-Stars duty.

That leaves Boyd, Vudogo, Lodge & Macca. Both Boyd and Macca are supposedly being rested which leaves Lodge and Vudogo. Either Lodge has picked up an injury, or he's leading the Broncos extended squad against the Seagulls. I'm looking forward to seeing that line-up, if only to get a sense of what a real Broncos QCup side would look like.

Interesting Jack Bird starts at fullback again

Seibold is really trying to stretch Bird out, surely he cannot get injured again.

Unless Bird makes a meal of it, that would be the biggest indication yet that he's sown up the fullback spot. From the limited vision we saw of the Capras trial, it appeared he had a mixed game with his inability to defuse a kick leading directly to points so it remains to be seen how long the experiment will last.

Cronulla tried Bird back at fullback in 2017 to mixed success. He made a promising start against the Raiders in their 42-16 route, but came back down to earth the following week against the Dragons. He received one final opportunity before the Sharks returned to their original plan of Holmes at fullback.

Also interesting to see which two development players made the team. Even if Perese has his contract terminated, the Broncos don't have to promote any players until June 30 so it's probably smart to keep that spot open and trial a couple of players to see how they handle the opportunity.

Went down to training today for a squiz. Lodge left the field half way through with a knee problem.

With the lineup as it is it looks like there is a huge chance that Seibold is leaning towards leaving Isaako out of the side with Bird at fullback and Coates on the right wing.

Wouldn't be against this to be honest. Isaako has gone nowhere but backwards since his first year.

I am also for it provided Coates holds up defensively and Bird is able to provide the potency we need from the back.

Sure can, the game will be live-streamed on NRL.com. You'll need an NRL.com account, but they're free and it's easy to set up.
Will it be on Kayo too? Or just NRL.com?

Hopefully this means 2020 truly is going to be 'pick on performance'.

Maybe this is similar to 2018 where Seibold played Cook for 80 minutes and Farah was on the outer. It's not enough to be merely adequate, we've been giving guys jerseys based on loyalty for too long.

Siebold said in an interview that Bird will play fullback for the first half and Jamayne will play fullback in the second half. Claims it is a genuine shoot out for the number 1 jersey.

whos the goal kicker with no Isaako..?

Bird at fullbacks of interest to me; although im constantly amazed that not 1 NRL club can get Bird to make a position his own yet..?

Slowly starting to form a opinion that some of this may be on the player himself, plus injuries robbing him the opportunity to stake a claim i guess; all things being equal he stays at centre for us last year...

I wish him luck; he could prove to be a real handful at fullback, but lets see...
