This side has a nice balance of raw power and speed. Et over handcock only because et got a heap more rep jerseys and truckload more speed. One player who I loved to watch but his career was pulled short was Willie Carne. I think he could of been the greatest winger / fullback of all time. Inglis over slater because I do believe GI can be a lot better and more damaging. Johns and Fittler being the 2 standout players left out.

Ahem...State of Origin Game 1 2002

That's actually one game I have yet to see Broncoman, probably cause I was in hospital with a dislocated shoulder I suffered from a bad fall caused by a seizure.

It was only one game. Langer fared much better in the return bout at ANZ stadium and the decider as well. I think he was man of the match in that game. Head to head it was pretty much one way traffic with Langer and Johns. Alfie seemed to really go up a gear.

Ouch, sorry to hear that GC.

On Joey v Alfie.

Joey had his share of victories over Alfie. I believe he played in what was then the Knights best victory over the Broncos in 1994 and backed that up the following year in an extremely impressive 32-10 win sans his half partner Matty Johns.

Alfie responded nicely in 1996, helping the Broncos come from behind to keep their undefeated record against the Knights alive at ANZ stadium 24-19.

NSW of course swept the Origin that year, but a lot of conjecture surrounds the validity of the contest. Queensland were at odds with one another due to the nature of the Super League scuffle and how the stars waltzed right back in despite a lot of the unknowns pulling off a spirited victory. There was also the notion that Joey was a dummy half so that may count against him, I haven't watched the series yet, but from my understanding it was more of a hybrid role and he predominately played as a half with Toovey feeding him the ball. Regardless, if you're to count it, you'd have to think that's a win for Joey.

Things reverse in 1998 with Alfie claiming a 2-1 Origin victory over Johns and a huge victory on the road at Marathon Stadium, which was nice for Alf.

Then it appeared Joey had the last laugh when his brother broke the deadlock in 1999. This was during a time period where Alf was so down on confidence he called full-time on his career.

Of course Alf would go onto live to fight another day and after becoming a key cog in Queensland's victory over NSW in 2001, he defended the shield in the twilight of his career matching Joey Johns at his best. He also played a key role in the Broncos come from behind victory at ANZ and while Joey would get his revenge against the Broncos at Marathon, Alfie was out injured due to some thumb injury he suffered at Parra.

TL;DR - It was pretty even with Alf maybe getting through on points.
