Latest updates on fresh injuries and charges in post below.

INJURED

LATEST JUDICIARY

There's a good chance that if there wasn't an injury, he wouldn't have been charged at all. Like what was mentioned above, what about the other incidents this weekend without charge? Sort of maybe kind of fits the description of hip drop so that's what they're running with.

Also, somebody mentioned the future lawsuits regarding concussion and how it will ruin the game... how does combat sports get around it? UFC fighters cop a lot more blows to the head, including sometimes repeated blows after already being unconcious. Surely there's something that can be written into the contracts regarding play at your own risk. NRL will do everything they can to reduce head knocks and protect the players, but accidents are always going to happen.

Look at what happened to Kennedy but nothing because he's on a darling Sydney team.

Exactly, same type of incident (though one-on-one which is arguably even worse), injuring a key player (fullback) of a team likely to end up in the top 4 by season's end. Aaaaaaaaaaand nothing said.

Grade 1 and $1000 fine.

Needs to be shown IMO. Mitigating circumstances for Patty is the movement that actually did the damage to Hastings was the other two blokes pushing him over the top. If they dragged him the other way Pat wouldn't have even made contact with Hastings' leg at all. This is far more of a 'hip drop' than Pat's.

I'm not sure how you can establish "intent" on this. It is what it is, as they say. Carrigan didn't even need to get involved, truth be told:

For me one big issue is that there was no need for Patty to come in, with some momentum and tackle an effectively held player, held by 2 defenders in fact. It was totally unnecessary and that is what makes the tackle look so bad. 5 - 7.weeks.

The fact he's a Bronco means it's curtains for Patty until the finals.

We can’t use the other two blokes part in the tackle as a defence because we will end up with three players suspended instead

Several posters in here over the last 10 pages.

without going back through the last 10 pages to fact check you

are you sure that's what the posters think he'll get ... or what they think he should get.

there is a difference

Grade 2 dangerous contact, so 2 weeks out I reckon. Although if the injury is bad it might be worse.

Shouldn’t even be a penalty.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but this would be his first offence, so it should be max 2 games if he makes an early plea, which I'm sure he will.

It looks like a Grade 3 dangerous contact to me (2 weeks with early guilty plea), but maybe it's only Grade 2, in which case just one match out:

He shouldn't get a single week. Get the best sports lawyer in the country and fight this BS charge.

That's just from one page.

I look at the footage over and over again and I just don't see a scenario where they don't throw the book at him.

It's the same style of tackle as a hip drop. He didn't need to get his body in that position. That's what is going to hurt him. Defenders have a duty of care, the onus is on them.

It was a dumb mistake from Patty. Hopefully he learns from it when he does return, which I imagine will be week 2 of the finals, maybe week 3.

They'll throw the book at Patty here and he will be the example, even though he himself was the victim of a similar tackle earlier in the year which ruled him out for a few weeks

3 weeks max. Let's see though with the MRC it's a lottery and he could be given 8 and that's season over.
