Thanks Payne

I don’t know much about coding or whatever but is there a way to make the thread title read as more sarcastic

I’m shocked and disappointed. I never thought he’d leave his family. He’s given us the best years of his life,

On a slightly troubling note, I hope he’s chasing money, the big city, a chance of captaincy, or escaping his gangster family, and it’s not some kind of discord with players or coach.

I’d have been happy to hand him the captaincy today, but Patty, Hunt and Reece are in front of the queue.

Payne Hass, Reynolds and Hunt money coming free at end of 2026. Gotta get at least $2 million right there.

Who are you buying?
I’m happy with our roster. Payne’s workload is impossible to replace. Every other position is pretty solid. Hooker might still be a work in progress. Same with the back three.

The new interchange rules will impact our need for a utility who can cover the backs and hooker. I expect Anderson to become a fixture.

I’m not convinced by Ben te Kura. Yet.

So much salt in here. Imagine 2018-2021 if he wasn’t here!
As good as he is and was back then, we still didn't get close to the ring until Walsh hit the scene, and we improved the rest of our spine. In fact, as great as he was those years, we still collected a spoon.

A prop, even the best to ever do it, can only influence a game so much. Thats all it is. Not many arent appreciative of his performances in those years, he is a huge part of the reason we finally won the big one again. So, for the most part I don't think its salt, we got a ring with him (hopefully 2), but when that announcement came, its only natural for all the old contract circus shit to resurface.

I don't think anyone is downplaying how good he has always been for us, just listing ways we can hopefully move on without him, and highlighting that yeah, with his contract circuses this was probably always going to happen at one point.

Hope Madge plays him for 80 as often as possible.

We’ll likely win another title with him doing that so win-win if he goes to Souths completely burnt-out

Him leaving does not make sense tbh. It really doesn't.

Fair enough if he left for R360 who were offering multi millions of dollars or even Japanese rugby, he may of wanted to see the world and earn much more than we could offer him.

But to leave us now, after winning a premiership, right at the peak of our powers, he decides to leave to... South Sydney?! Wtf???

So he stays when we're wooden spooners, but leaves when he could stay and build a dynasty and win 2, 3 maybe more premierships with this squad.

I just don't get it.
Exactly my thoughts. On the surface this decision makes zero sense. ZERO.

So, apparently Brisbane are taking advantage of the cooling off period to offer a 5 year deal with the bells and whistles that Souths have apparently offered.

Was this the plan all along - leverage Souths genuine interest to actually get the deal he wants from Brisbane?

Thats a power play by his management if true?

It's DCE level and, if so, tell him to **** off.

Its hard to be so......given the very small sample size we've been given.

2026 is gonna be his break out year.

You heard it here first. 😉

Its a power play for sure and the wording has been weird from the start talking about waiting for the cooling off period to finish, et al.

But two things here:
1. The rumour is coming from Dobbin and he has not got anything right since the 90s
2. They've put a clock on it and locked out anyone else now because it is either Souths or Brissy, they would have been better off signalling a willingness to go to Sydney and let the bidding war start. As it stands now, its us or Souths and no one else gets a look in.

South Sydney can play the Payne Haas contract circus when Wayne moves on at the end of 27, despite the fact he's signing for 3 years.

You're forgetting the initial leak was Bennett... he only cares about Bennett.

If Prestige Worldwide was trying the powerplay and it didnt get leaked then no one would know that Bennett got him to sign in the first place!!

Well I don't care about Bennett, he's a has been who just tries to stay relevant by giving himself little puffs up the butt in the media, so my lack of care about anything him related well and truly offsets any care about what he says, so there is that.

Well it won't be Fletcher Baker, if he was still here or otherwise.
