I'm happy Smith finally did the job he's in the side to do, but come rub my face in it when he has 50+ tests under his belt and a batting average of 45< because then and only then will he and you have proven a point ...

Been posting more about the Ashes over on LU but my take on this series is a lot like when India came here in 11/12, I thought we were gonna get flogged but they were absolutely diabolical and we ended up flogging them 4-0 with Clarke in the best form of his career.

Great knock from Smith, I've been riding him ever since his selection in the 10/11 Ashes but today he showed some real ticker, needs to go on with it and post a big score batting with the tail.

What I liked about SS's knock were the balls he didn't play. Some of the shots he committed to were pure class. It's all about shot selection for him. To curb his natural instincts. If he can master that discipline he could be anything.

Smith has great footwork. His technique is flawed but he makes it work. He plays well against spin a result of his footwork- he showed all those aspects yesterday.

Like Watson he's been given a not earned spot based on the future and a project. He will be under scrutiny until he averages 50 and has 200 wickets.

Watson hasn't delivered on the promise.
