The Cowboys

BUMP

Another year, another heart-breaking finish.

When I started this thread, they were coming off a disappointing loss against a hapless Warriors outfit. Despite being tipped to have a strong start to the season, the Cowboys were caught struggling and after 7 weeks they had a 2-5 record.

But then it all clicked into place. All the promising signs like Morgan at fullback, Taumalolo's resurgence, the form of Sims and Bolton came together and manifested into a encouraging 13-5 record until they controversially went down to the Chooks by a point.

The question remains, will they recover heading into next season and will they be able to go further than they did this season? What will it take?

I think they need to stop rating Michael Morgan so much. He's got butter for fingers and is frankly not that good at anything. Strikes me as being Reece Robinson when he had that one good year. I frankly think he's a mediocre player and they better hope Coote can return to somewhere near his best.

They also need to get rid of Lui and find something else. Cowboys attack is too predictable. Run left side, short for Cooper/Taumalolo or go in behind to Linnett. Alternatively, throw the inside ball to Michael Morgan or a forward. Their attack is way too structured and I think that's because the rest of their spine is so shit.

Thurston is like Selleys No More Gap. Does a great job of covering holes, but at the end of the day they are still there.

I reckon Paul Green made a lot of good moves this season.

I liked a lot of signings he brought to the club - using his links to bring in Moga and Granville while also nabbing the likes of Tanginoa and Glasby who could prove to be handy replacements for the likes of Tate, Ashton and Tariq Sims.

If I was a Cowboys fan, I'd feel very excited about the Granville signing. I don't think he received a fair shake at the Broncos and believe he could be a weapon either off the bench or even starting.

However, if I had one concern, it'd be the fullback position. While the move to fullback was one of the best decisions Green made, I don't consider it a good long term move. While it appears that Kalyn Ponga is the future, I believe the Cowboys would be smart to chase after a fullback and try to capitilise on JT's final few years at the club.

Lachlan Coote can be a gun if he actually stays on the field. Morgan is great at club level too. There are a lot of teams with worse fullbacks. I mean Roosters won with Minichiello last year.

They really need a hooker more. Who knows how Granville will go over the entire season.

Did someone really just say get rid of Lui?!

Lui has been outstanding for them, often getting more try assists and line break assists than Thurston.

Yep I sure did. Lui only does well if JT does too. To be better the Cowboys need someone who can be good when JT is not. That's not Lui.

His got a good kicking game .....

atrocious defence.

Their defense is their biggest issue, IMO.

They tend to have a hard time keeping teams out, and mainly only win games because they can score a lot of points.

They tended to be the complete opposite this year, not sure what you watched lol. Lui would kill it when Thurston did nothing all game, and vice versa. That tigers game was a big example. Lui destroyed it while JT was a passenger.
