I'm not a big fan of molan but i dont think you can blame her much. They gave her a show that had been terminal for years and basically said bring it back to its glory days. Tough ask.

The landscape has changed, people want more serious discussion thanks to what nrl fox has been doing in recent times and trying to reverse what the footy show had moved towards over the years, within a 12 month span? Nah. People gonna feel the rug has been pulled from underneath them.

Does anyone have any fond memories of the show?

* The time Clinton Schifcofske completely shattered this kids dream of watching him play for NSW.

* There was a segment where Sterlo took a bunch of paintballs to the gut like a maniac.

*The serious interviews were usually top notch. The Joey drug admission, Gallop vs. Gould, Gould dishing on Hook etc. all fond memories

* Nads, the race dog

*Big Marn riding the motorbike into the fence

They tried to revamp the show, but making it a glorified post-match show was never going to help matters. 9 have to re-think who they cast on these shows. I couldn't see JT giving an honest opinion on anything and Thaiday tries way too hard. They also managed to get the least funny Sims of the bunch. Maybe Nathan Brown can apply for the job when things turn pear shape at Newcastle?

I must say, the first time they had Fatty and The Big Marn in that dark room that they had to feel their way through had me rolling around laughing. It got old in the end, but that first time, where it was genuine, classic stuff.

Molan was one of the reasons the show was going down the shitter, though. She wasn't very well liked. But they still had Fatty there to keep people watching, until they got rid of him.

Yeah it's definitely not her fault, honestly maybe she could do well in a different format. It's just seriously one of the worst produced shows I've ever seen, the serious parts are boring, the funny parts are cringe, the panel are all terrible choices.

You need someone with serious charisma to lead a show, Molan doesn't have it. Yvonne Sampson on the other hand... She's an excellent host but they lost her to Fox.

Steve Irwin's appearance on the show was a good laugh. And the chilli challenge. Sterlo's head looked like a strawberry. The Daredevil Dudes stuff was also pretty funny.

I also really liked the interviews. Gould didn't hold back in some of those.

Honestly the show was a bit of light anti-PC entertainment. Once they tried to sanitise it, they ruined it. Erin Molan is a perfectly competent sports reporter but a horrible person for that show.

I don't know about this years version ... but previous years have been more of a variety show than a footy show

It accelerated it sure, but for years people had been complaining about it. Fatty going mightve been the death knell, but even if he stayed I think it mightve got canned sooner rather than later anyway.

They were the ones who propped it up for 25 years not the blow ins who might watch it once a month because they now had a woman on it. The other major factor was foxsports got their shit together and put a league channel on. The true league die hards have Foxtel which caters for the every needs on rugby league. It the exact same for the AFL footy show which isn't doing much better.

I think you've touched on something I briefly mentioned - both the traditional afl and nrl footy shows are going the way of the dodo.

I think that's partially the professionalism of both codes taking the next step. You look at other major codes and yes while they do have a relaxed or low key show or two, most of it is either heavy hitting in terms of tactical breakdowns or proper recaps about recently played fixtures and the greater impact of them (finals positioning, players and their form, contracts etc etc).

The variety hour show as the main flagship for a code is no longer the standard benchmark.

When l started watching NRL and paying attention to the Footy Show, Sterlo was still it and the show had a genuine larrikin feel to it. it was an honest fun show to watch but it slowly declined and eventually Fatty was the last man standing from the golden era.
