The Storm Hate Thread [Official]

Alot of Storm fans in that forum calling for Munster to be dropped. I kinda agree, but I wonder if Bellamy would actually do it.

Who would they put there? I haven't been arsed looking at their squad, I prefer to make generalised sweeping ill-informed statements about them. Didn't they consider Meaney at 6 at one time or am I mistaken?

Edit:
Imagine having a spine of:
(1) Fullback/winger
(6) Winger/centre
(7) Fullback
(9) Hooker

And if that doesn't work, I'm sure Bellamy yelling at them more will fix it!

I think the thinking is anyone else can't be any worse. They just need someone who can tackle and run the ball. Something which Munster cant seem to do atm. Maybe Wishart?

The other problem is if Huges is out for a while, it'll be brave to have 2 completly new halfs (although it worked for us last year when Reynolds/Mam got injured).

Cup is coming down the bottom too and only won 2/6 so not a lot of options.

Jack Hetherington always tries hard.

Appears Bellyache has the full support of the board! That wasn't on my bingo card this year!

Melbourne chair and majority owner Matt Tripp has sought to ease the pressure on coach Craig Bellamy by insisting that everyone in the club needs to take some responsibility for fixing their current plight, not just the head coach.

Bellamy, one of the most successful coaches in rugby league history, finds himself in uncharted territory after the Storm slumped to their sixth successive defeat at the weekend - a chastening loss to South Sydney.

Bellamy was remarkably asked immediately after that loss whether he had buy-in from his side, prompting captain Harry Grant to interject and suggest it was a silly question.

Tripp also insisted Bellamy was not to blame for the club’s current woes and revealed he had spoken to the coach and offered any support he needs to drag the side out of their current malaise.

“I had a good chat with all our coaches after the game,” Tripp said.

“It wasn’t a crisis conversation; it was what can we do to help you fix this? There has been lots of conversations over the course of yesterday and heading into today.

“Everyone understands that the situation needs to be rectified. It’s on the club as a collective. It’s not on Craig. No-one works harder than Craig.”

Bellamy has a remarkable record as coach of the Storm, having led the club to three premierships and five grand final wins since taking over in 2003.

During that time, he has missed the finals only once - in 2010 after the club was found to have breached salary cap rules and stripped of their points.

That year aside, the finals has been the minimum expectation. After starting this year with successive wins, the finals look a fait accomplishment yet again.

However, the Storm have slipped immeasurably over the past six weeks and there are genuine fears that the finals may be beyond them unless they can quickly address their shortcomings.

Bellamy vowed to make changes after Saturday night’s loss to Souths but his options are limited given halfback Jahrome Hughes joined the casualty ward - he will miss this week’s game against the Dolphins with concussion.

The Storm should have second rower Ativalu Lisati available again while Shawn Blore is another week into his return and should press for a starting spot.

The changes won’t matter unless there is a dramatic change of attitude given the defensive lapses that have marked their performances in recent weeks - the Storm have conceded points for fun in their defeats.

“I think it’s fair to say that we haven’t experienced a run like this in a long time,” Tripp said.

“Everyone in the club, not just the players and coaches, is acutely aware that they need to lift and put whatever level of support they can to drag ourselves out of this.

“It’s uncharted territory. No one is enjoying it. It needs to be fixed. It all starts with working hard. The guys have been training incredibly and it hasn’t translated into game day.”

While the Storm have slipped to 16th on the ladder, the quality of their spine in particular means pundits and punters alike have been reluctant to write them off.

Penrith’s remarkable revival last year - they were last midway through the year but still qualified for the finals - has also put people on notice.

“We can’t keep looking at the comparisons with Penrith,” Tripp said.

“You can’t click your fingers and say we can do what they have done. We have to knuckle down and fight our way out of it.”

It's hard to believe that this Melbourne team can't win a game.

Grant, Munster, Hughes.. their fullback is a bit of a gun too. Rep players in other positions.

There would be worse rosters in the NRL that are doing significantly better. Have they come undone because of the 6 again's? Can't control the ruck anymore?

Last year Penrith were in a similar spot but you could see them turning it around. Melbourne were lucky to not concede 50 to Souths, that would be the 2nd time this year they conceded 50. On an occasion too like Anzac Day.

It really does remind me of when we were in our spoon years, the first 20 we'd deadset have a go, ultimately concede a try and then the wheels fell off. They're in a spot and I don't know that they can get out of it. Bellamy doesn't know either, Harry Grant saved him at the presser. He was about to concede he doesn't know if he's still got the group.

To me the set restart rules have gone back to 2021 in terms of where they are given etc, and Melb were minor premiers that year and made the prelim. Not sure the rule changes can be blamed for what's going on with them. IMO

Yeah Penrith situation was very different, their loss margins were small(reasonably) and they were still always in the contest. Melbourne are hot trash, awful across the board. They'd need a complete 180. Which isn't impossible I guess.

Redcliffe haven't actually been THAT bad despite the losses. Hopefully they don't shit the bed and ruin it for everyone.

Before anyone celebrates the death of the cheats, as mentioned, panthers found themselves in a similar situation last season - and we went 6 losses in 7 games at one point.

They can absolutely turn it around and finish the season competitive.

However their losses are looking more like our 2020 or 2024 seasons where the answer seems further and further away with each loss.

Origin might reignite Munster and they can go on a run.

I wonder if having Sua at fullback is causing some of the issues out wide due to poor communication or number spotting. Combine that with their undersized pack causing their middle to condense.

Dolphins are 1.63 and Storm 2.29 for this game.
Storm have blown out to 2.63 to make the top eight. Don't know what they were at the start of the season but would have been way shorter.
Not quite writing them off to make the finals yet but a couple more losses would seal it for me.

I really don't know what has caused their fall from grace and I don't think bellamy does either.

I am pretty sure he would have put them through the same or similar pre season that he always does on the basis that if you do the same thing over and over you get the same result (making the top 8 and competing for a premiership). Normally that is seen as the definition of insanity but Bellamy has used it to his advantage for about 20 yrs. Paradoxically the fact this saying is not working for him so far this season might be driving him nuts.

He wasn't getting a regular gig there for a reason - even when Paps was injured. Meany filled in a lot.

There's got to be a reason for that. He's an absolute freak with the ball in hand and we saw that like 2 - 3 years ago when he tore us up off the bench. But maybe he's dumb as a bag of rocks when it comes to enacting a game plan?

Hughes looks well out of form too, throwing absolute bludger passes.

Grant has never lived up to Smith. Hot headed, rocks and diamonds games. He's still top shelf a lot of the time, but he comes off the bench for QLD for a reason.

Munny seems like the wheels have fallen off. He was a loose cannon before his dad died. When his dad died at origin time last year, it was all emotion, he just unleashed. Post origin he started to decline and he was almost invisible in the granny. Nothing has changed. He's not fired a shot this year.

They've lost talent across the park. Losing Kamikamica and him still being on shaky ground, on top of losing the other talent last year / offseason. They are in a bad spot.

Two grand final losses in a row. An aging coach who's clearly frustrated. Players well down on confidence.

50/50 they make the finals or come close to spooning this year. Dragons may save their blushes by simply being not even reserve grade standard right now.
