Back to Gilbert.

While I dislike him in the sense that they thought they could replace Vossy with him, I don't dislike him solely for that reason.

It's the minimal knowledge that hurts me.

He comes across as the guy who never missed a day of class but always maintained a C average. Willing to show up was just enough for him and he doesn't have to try hard or learn anything about the game or the players he's talking about.

If I have one hang up on Vossy it's that he can flog some serious dead horses. I get that he's trying to create a narrative but sometimes it feels really disconnected to what's going on and he's just forcing it in there.

But it's a mere nitpick.

I really dislike listening to Gilbert because it genuinely sounds like he has no idea about any of the rules of the game or virtually anything NRL related.

At one stage last night Kahu scored a great try in the corner and I don't think he even raised his voice as much as when he was referring to his wife's cake that she brought in?.. Like what the ****, get real.

I didn't hear the ABC guys reference Ben Spina as Laurie Spina's son once, even though he was sideline commentator.

They did reference the rest of the NQ crap about a billion times though.

Yeah I totally agree actually. On the field I can't stand him but so far he seems to be an excellent commentator

Channel 9 Commentary in both cricket & Rugby League is disgraceful. It would be nice to hear Ray Warren & Andrew Voss as the ultimate team, but that's not going to happen. Fox Sports do a much better job (except for the NSW Cup games where Joel Cain is commentator).

As far as Tim Gilbert goes, it is a pretty sad when you're listening to him commentate and you were wishing Ray Hadley had the call! Tim Gilbert is as bland as bland goes. He's a walking-takling Dad joke.

Hadley shit's me with his constant use of "base over apex" and "opptional restart".

Let's just hope the NRL are smart and they offer up each day of the NRL fixture to it's own bid and give Foxsports every game live.

I must admit I also found Tim Gilbert very irritating. Seemed to be always waffling on and not calling the game. I must admit I like the Fox callers a bit more then the nine crowd.
