Smith has taken a leave of absence and gone home to his family on the Coast as to get his bi polar under control.
Parra have told him to take as much time as he needs and he says he will return to the NRL.

FoxsSports News.

According to Xtra.co.nz, he has also said he is NOT using his bi polar disorder as an excuse for his constant public misdemenors.

Just thought id say that before ppl jump on the Smith bashing bandwagon.

I've never got off the bandwagon.

*bash bash* You suck Tim! *bash bash* You can't play! *bash bash* You can't handle your drink *bash bash* Go home and cry! :P

OK, very childish and insensitive of me. There's no doubt he's Parramatta through and through.

Hopefully it does him good. Shame to waste such a talent.

Haha. What is it with players getting home sick at Parramatta?

Well you can't win. If you move to Parramatta from somewhere else, you get home sick for the somewhere else.

If you were born and bred in Parramatta, you get sick of home! [icon_lol1.

I think the Coast should sign him up and release Prince [icon_lol1.

At one stage Tim Smith looked to be the next Andrew Johns, and Frank was loving it because of the fact that he is a Queenslander. The wheels seem to have fallen off that wagon though :(

Kinda. Seems Smith has the same demons as Johns off the field. He just can't perform with them like Johns did.

Imagine how good Johns could've been if he wasn't an idiotic druggo off the field? Tragic waste of talent. There'd be no doubt he's the best of all time if he could've played to his potential and not destroyed his mind and body with chemicals.

Bipolar disorder is hardly a laughing matter. It is a terrible disease and does awful things to your mind. No wonder Tim Smith appears to be a nut case with this disease...I hope he battles on and comes through it. Sticks to the meds they give him!

Agree as have seen many on their highs and lows with this disorder.Horrible illness and to me one does not just get well in a couple of months even on meds.It is ongoing and needs the meds adjusted when the lows hit.

What gets me though lately is the amount of footy players in all codes who have this mental disorder eusa_think
None of them are just alcoholics or drug takers but bi polar sufferers suddenly.Very odd.Must be something in the water. [icon_wink

Anyhow if this is truly what the kid is diagnosed with while under the coaching of one Mick Hagen icon_smile and the care he has received from Joey himself then I just hope he does get some love and care from his family and maybe head to the KNIGHTS when all better.

OK, I admit I am a b!tch.

What's similar between Tim Smith & Andrew Johns. (apart from both suffering from bi polar)

Both were coached by Michael Hagan & Brian Smith.

There's a link there somewhere. [icon_razz1

Kaz.As I said in the post above.Same coach.Same illness.

The kid did look much worse than Johns though but I am just too tired of the Bi Polar getting thrown around.
What was in vogue when it was Mason and Mad Dog?ADHD?If I remember.

Geez, so many of you are a bunch of insensitive assholes.

If Smith has Bi Polar, he has possibly a life-long disabling mental illness which is not always under the control of numerous medications.

Ask me more - I am a mental health worker.

Ha ha ha...I live in Parramatta and if I came from Queensland I'd be home sick too!!!

Hopefully he gets himself back on track soon. I think that people are more comfotable now to admit that they have a problem which is the reason that all these people are suddenly bi-polar. Thanks in part to Andrew Johns. On the other hand it is getting scarily common for famous 'Hollywood' people to admit that they "suffer from depression".
Bi-polar is something that runs in my family. I can tell you it can be a crippling disease. It could take Tim Smith years to work this out.
All the best to him!!!

Agree it will take him a very long time.He may never come back to the game.
Johns on the other hand quickly bounced back from years of misdiagnosis and jumped straight into the spotlight.Gees how long was his face even off TV?
The media has a lot to answer for with the way they through these kids the name 'Superstar' at such a young age.The pressure on some of the young blokes must be enormous to bare.

I could have cried when I read this morning about his breaking down and saying he just couldn't do this anymore.Poor kid.Know where he is coming from.

Not doubting Smith as he has been on medication but not helping as he has too much other pressure to handle and being away from true support has not helped.Don't understand why his councillor let it get this far to be honest.Blessing in disguise that he hit rock bottom with a losing side to get out of the game and get away.

The coach and the coach before,to me have treated this kid as meat.Hagen saw it in Johns so why not in this kid.Sickening.No he is not a Dr nor is Johns but now Johns is jumping on the bandwagon of being there for him before he came out and admitted to the illness.

Still I will say the bipolar is used far too often for some who are depressed. Many forms of depression and bipolar does seem to be kicked around in sporting circles too freely.Does not help in the aide of those suffering from other forms of depression or the black dog syndrome imo.
