I just hope that if Paix is back in the middle, that he's defence has improved dramatically. Last time he played NRL level, his defence was pretty bad.

Why is Hetherington lock ? " " " I think Smoothy could also be a candidate .
Why is Gosewski in ? Is he a better defender than Piakura ? If it`s Piakuras defence it won`t matter if he`s on the bench or starting , he`s a liability .

That Koellner dude would have throw the cat among the pidgeons last week end . Interested to see if he plays in the next cpl of trials .

For Shiba are you thinking starting 17 during the season proper or getting a game in trial 2 or 3?

Unless Shiba has done intensive work on his eye hand coordination ie catching a football, no way is he pushing Mariner out . Do you remember his previous stint at the Broncos? Good and willing . But no skills .

I haven't heard much noise about Jensen playing so far. It may be his time on the field is up, with Big Ben and Willison on the bench. We have our utility, we're going to need a second rower at lease on the bench.

The only reason Paix didn't play last year is because the Broncos were desperate to get him off their books. I think Madge is more open to picking him and getting as much value out of his roster so I expect Paix will be in the frame.

Kobe strikes me as the style of player Madge likes. A tough hard-working battler with a good tackle tech. It may not be a long term solution, but I can see Madge giving him that opportunity under his tutelage to see if he can take Kobe's game to the next level.

Smoothy could be an option down the line but I get the impression he'll have to fight his way into the team. Tyson is used to it and has never let a setback get in the way of NRL footy and I expect he'll be in the team come the rep season.

As far as Gosiewski a lack of alternatives really. I think it's a 'is what it is' situation, but if he can take some of the work-load off of Piakura and get some more value out of his squad, I'm sure Madge is going to take that opportunity. I could see Piakura transitioning into a lock forward role as well.

Gosiewski won't have huge expectations on him, if he can focus on his 1%ers and take his opportunities when they come that'll see him stay in the team.

We'll see how Koellner goes in Week 2, if he gets selected.

I've braced myself for it. He might not be there come Round 1, but I get the impression he's right in the mix and if Madge wants to play that conservative defensive option he'll go Shibasaki.

Don't think Madge will be afraid to drop someone and some of Mariners efforts last season should of seen him put back to cup

Yeah I went for Gos starting over Piakura for a few simple reasons, and I should say that I don’t love that he’s the option but the biggest one is that I think Piakura was given the role of 80 minutes each week too soon.

He proved that he could do it without the quality dropping beyond acceptable standard. He also didn’t earn his position - he was given it because no one else was available.

The goal would be for him to be playing close to 80 by the end but we’d warm him into it.
