Tinkler: Come to the game for 5 bucks

Yeah, and I don't know what it'd achieve, really. Most people in the Newcastle region have probably been to a Knights game at some stage. They regularly get very good crowds of over 20000 with current prices.

Seems an expensive way to buy support for a takeover....

you can't put a price on "customer goodwill".

And TBH I don't think the people of Newcastle actually believe they will lose their NRL licence if they don't turn their finances around. But the NRL are not prepared to continually prop up financially un-sustainable clubs long term. So yeah $5 tickets might be "buying support for a takeover" but ultimately it is about actually saving the club for it's fans and ensuring the Knight have a future.

$5 ticket to get into the gate.....$20 beers, $50 hot dogs.....It would be cheaper to buy a return flight to Newy & go to the game then to buy a ticket to the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium [icon_non

Jarrod Mullen was interesting on TV last night pretty much saying the Newy fans and board would be stupid to not accept Tinklers offer, and all the players want him in charge.

I thought there was a deal with 3 or 4 local businessmen in the area proposed as an alternative? My knowledge on the situation is limited, other than that it's been widely recognised they need some sort of financial injection.

His success with the Jets is definitely encouraging. Most of his achievements originated with cut-priced tickets and season membership, looks like he'll take a similar path here. I heard an interview with him the other day where he advocated for 30,000 fans paying $5 a ticket, over 10,000 paying $30. Makes sense.

FYI he has an authoritarian reputation in the horse racing game. He is a very 'hands on' owner seemingly lacking people skills. The general consensus is you need to be a bit of a yes man to keep your job with him. A feature of his racing empire has been the perennial underachievement of his horses which many have put to his personal meddling. It certainly isn't the staff, he's regularly turned them over (5 head trainers in ~ 4 years) to the point where his Patinack Farm operation is now better known as Pat n' sack.

This hasn't been a problem with the Jets as I've heard him state times over that soccer holds little interest to him. However, he is huge league fan. I wonder if the Knights are aware that should this deal go through they may not only find themselves with financial stability, but also a co-coach.

What if the local businessmen die in a plane crash?

Sorry, but I find that a dumb comment. Just because he's fat doesn't mean people should be thinking about his death.

Sorry, I'll stop thinking about your death.

If this doesn't get voted in the Knights members are insane. Only reason Burraston is vocally opposing it is because he knows Tinkler will sack him, he has been thoroughly selfish in his actions claiming he speaks for members when clearly this is very likely to go ahead. If Tinkler doesn't come in quite simply other sports will get his generous money because the guy simply loves sport and wants to be a part in the best way he can, massive loss for league if he doesn't get involved because the Hunter region is league mad and this will only energise it even further.

If he thinks he's going to be that kind of owner and have Wayne Bennett as Head Coach then he's got another thing coming.

What happens if Tinkler drops dead? Where does the money go then? Still pump into the Knights?.

They sue the estate for their money.

Hope the caterers are going to stock up on supplies for the Corporate boxes because Tinkler is going to have it all in bucket. With a wafer on top.

ALl in the top with an egg on top. But the ham is wafer thin.

hes not trying to make any money out of the knights nor the jets. its all about getting the masses on board the tinkler train so no one opposes him when he tries to expand his interests in mining

I guess it is certain that he will win control. The Knights have always had so much going for them but lacked finance and a Leagues Club. Hopefully this will work.

Although when he bought the Newcastle Jets he changed their colours! [icon_thumbs_do

But I like the idea of boosting Membership levels and cheap tickets and his committment to juniors.

If he looks after the juniors and buys back some old Newcastle/Hunter juniors, they will be powerful.
