Interesting that after 5 rounds, 4 of last season's top 8 have just 1 win. Broncos, Knights, Bulldogs and Eels.

I wonder if this situation will remain the same, with those 4 teams making up the numbers in the bottom half of the comp? I think it's highly likely the Broncos, Knights and Eels will miss the finals, though it seems incomprehensible to me that the Bulldogs can be close to the same team they were last year, which was one shitty video referee decision away from the minor premiership, and be playing so badly.

I think the Eels will likely get out of their slump and start performing sooner or later. I can't see them missing the 8 to be honest.

I can easily see the eels missing the top 8. Last year they went on a run born from a nothing to lose attitude and confidence when their passes started to stick as well as Hayne achieved a ridiculous level which he maintained for 2 months.
The weight of expectation is a big difference this year and they are crumbling under it on and off the field.

The topsy turvey results are doing us a favour because they are buying us time while we get our full roster back on deck.

With a top 8 system, why would you bother peaking too early? There's not too much incentive to play well week in, week out throughout the season.

agreed. you basically only need to win just shy of half your games to make the finals. the first half of the season is basically a write off, you dont win premierships then.

this is where brisbane always faultered - theyd be on top of the ladder halfway through the season, then slowly drop when all the other teams started making their run, and make a swift exit from the finals.

So you're saying better to lose all your early season games and make a play at the end of the season like Parra? ;-)

why not just try win all season lol. i enjoy winning, i cant see why players wouldnt wanna do it for 26 weeks!

Not that they don't want to. It's that it's not possible.

The physical and mental application needed to maintain top form for 26 weeks is just not possible.

broncos will make the 8, i bet Coxys car on it.

Parra won't make the 8. I bet Aeetee's son on it.

Exactly, hence the reason you don't want to burn yourself out too early in the season.

It's a joke you can make the finals by losing more games than you win

Forget it - the NRL is just like most sports leagues around the world that realises the financial benefits of keeping as many teams as possible around for the post-season

i am.

the first half of the season is for getting combinations, plays, and the best people for each position. win one out of every 2-3 games up until halfway through the season and youre good to go. then start ramping up the intensity just after the halfway mark and make a run at the finals. noone cares who was coming first at round 13.

OK, can I bet your daughter on it? You get to pick which one. LOL

What a call!!!

I had Parra to come 6-8 before a ball was kicked this season and I still stand by it
