TPJ, McCullough, Isaako future

Tpj is a must. Still young and what we need. Carrigan and Fledger don't play like him. Macca is gone he is past his prime and can't see him improving at all. Isaako we signed long term, I would give him a crack at FB over Boyd. If we are out of contention for finals put him in straight away and piss off Boyd. Can't see Seibs doing it, he loves Boyd and Macca for some reason. I don't care if they train hard. They aren't good enough at this level anymore.

It sounds like he's digging his heels in. If we lose ANOTHER good hooker (Granville was fantastic in 2015, he's been average ever since then but losing him probably cost us the comp ironically enough. Parcell would have been good too if he was serious about footy) because of Macca he will have to live with the knowledge that he's destroyed about 15 years of success for the club he apparently loves.

Macca has destroyed 15 years of success? He’s only played for 10 . It’s all his fault we’ve made one final in 12 years...yeah must be

How is it digging his heals in? The option is in his favour and he’s chosen to stay which is his right. Looks like he’s up for the battle for his spot which is a positive for the club.

To be fair, though, it's not like he kept picking himself. Coaches and management have to take a little more of the responsibility for that.

Well here's a thing:

Frustrated by James Roberts’ arrival, Dane Gagai could quit South Sydney

Dane Gagai is considering quitting South Sydney in a bid to shift from wing to centre after being disappointed at the Rabbitohs’ decision to sign James Roberts mid-season. The Daily Telegraph understands there has been interest from the struggling Gold Coast Titans in signing Queensland’s State of Origin star. Roberts, a specialist centre, signed with the Rabbitohs two weeks ago and played his first game for them against Newcastle last weekend.

There were suggestions that Gagai could leave Redfern before the NRL’s June 30 deadline but it would seem more likely to occur after this season. Gagai still has another two years remaining on his contract.

South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett views Gagai as a specialist winger, a position where he excels playing for Queensland. It is understood senior Gold Coast officials have informally spoken with Gagai about his immediate playing future. The Titans are expected to have additional room in their salary cap when high-priced utility Tyrone Peachey is released to rejoin Penrith.

While not blaming Roberts personally, Gagai feels he will now be permanently pushed onto the wing when centre Braidon Burns returns from injury. Kyle Turner has also been strong at centre this season.

One source close to Souths described Gagai as the “world’s best winger but he certainly sees himself as a centre’’. “Souths are in it to win this year so letting a player of his calibre go before June 30 wouldn’t be a good idea. I couldn’t see that happening. Gagai on the wing is the best option for Souths.” Gagai excels at State of Origin level, scoring 11 tries in 11 matches since debuting for Queensland in 2015.

He is nowhere near as prolific at NRL level, scoring 17 tries in 106 NRL matches since 2015.
Gold Coast head of performance and culture Mal Meninga is a huge fan of Gagai and sources have indicated the Titans would promise to play Gagai in the centres.

Gold Coast desperately needs an injection of class to lift the club from the premiership cellar.
Gagai is on a contract worth more than $700,000 a season. Mackay-born Gagai has always held a desire to return to Queensland and it is understood his wife and two children has never quite settled in to life in Sydney despite the efforts of Souths players and staff.

With Greg Inglis having retired, George Burgess moving on, John Sutton’s likely retirement and Gagai’s possible move, Souths are building a whopping war chest for coming years.
Gagai was brilliant in Origin I, crossing twice in Queensland’s 18-14 win at Suncorp Stadium.

Pretty crazy that if Macca didn’t go down at training his position would have been safe until the end of his contract, now a month later he’s way on the way out.

Pretty sure Macca just accepted his player option for 2020. He's sticking around

TPJ is a must. Isaako is a maybe. Macca can **** off.

Isaako to be replaced by either Coates or Farnworth. We have goal kickers in the side. The only thing that would make me want to keep Isaako in the side is the fact that he is the best goal kicker we have and in a competition that's so close, a clutch goal kicker is pretty important.

But if he continues to stink it up and does not get his 2018 form back, I think he should go.
Watching Issako bring the ball back he tends to slow down when he reaches the defensive line and duck into tacklers rather then running at a gap and using his acceleration and raw power to bust through. Once he gets the confidence to do this he’ll be at another level and be well on his way to making a wonderful player.

Great speculation, how can you even know that though.

Seibold stated quite clearly that he would reassess the squad after 8 rounds, there is nothing to suggest he wouldn't make this change without Macca's injury. Just because the previous coaches were happy with what Macca brings doesn't mean the Seibold would be. In fact, given what we have seen from Seibold coaching so far it seems quite obvious he would not like what Macca brings.

Yeah from the bench.

Maybe a bit speculative, but as many have said Turpin was playing like a potato in reserves.

I want to start by saying I’m totally aboard the Seibold train, have been since day one.

But I’m not so sure he would have moved McCullough if it weren’t for the injury. He could have, but no one will know. It is purely speculation both ways.

But to give an example as to why he may not have if it weren’t for the injury; Boyd is still lining up at fullback and it wouldn’t be a stretch to argue his performances have been worse than those of McCullough.

What can’t be argued is McCullough tries his absolute guts out for every second he’s on the field, he just isn’t good enough. Boyd used to be a very good player but has been an absolute shell of that player for about 18 months. He also looks disinterested half the time, a characteristic he’s be known to demonstrate at times during his entire career.

Seibold has said a number of times he’s all about the effort areas. Macca may have some shortcomings, but effort is not one of them. Boyd is very much questionable in that regard though, yet he remains in the team.

As I said, we can only speculate either way.

Of course it is, but no one else has speculated either way. Any speculation on my part was in response to a posters boring agenda.

Yes the OP has an agenda against Seibold, everyone has seen that in most of their posts since Bennett got the sack.

But I don’t think the point, this time at least, is agenda driven. Indeed, it could very well be bang on.

Seibold hasn’t dropped Boyd even though everyone can see he should, so I don’t think there’s anything to suggest he was going to do so with McCullough. Particularly given no one was banging down the door in reserve grade demanding to take his place.

Moral to the story, FFS, drop Boyd.

There was no agenda in my post. I wasn’t having a go at anyone. Just commenting on how it’s funny how things work out sometimes.

Don't take this as me defending his position in the team, I'd personally go pick up another fullback from anywhere in the country and bring him to the team on game day myself but Boyd is not lacking effort.

Maybe (probably??) he's past it, he's lost confidence in his ability, age hasn't been as graceful to him as others, I really don't know the reason but he is NOT lacking effort.

He's one of the fittest players in our team, I don't have access to the GPS data but I have no doubt he does more work in a game than anyone else, he's constantly covering huge metres, running up and making tackles when he could just be sitting behind the line. He's often first in kick chases, then runs all the way back again.

Boyd, seemingly, has lost his ability to be a top tier player but I don't think it's a question of effort.

There is no doubt that Macca excels in the ‘effort’ category, but unless the other half of that equation is ‘effectiveness’ then the sum total doesn’t really add up, does it?
