Manly forward Glenn Hall has withdrawn from tonight's NRL qualifying final against Melbourne after his wife gave birth to a stillborn child.

Hall rushed home to Sydney last night to be with his wife Kylie after she developed complications with her pregnancy.

"Kylie and I are grateful to the family and friends who have extended their thoughts and prayers at this most difficult of times," Hall said in a statement issued by the club.

"We would ask that our privacy be respected and that, instead of sending flowers, well-wishers can make a donation through http://www.stillbirthfoundation.org.au.

Hall, who played in last year's grand final victory, will miss tonight's qualifying final against Melbourne at Docklands after originally being named on the bench.

"My immediate concern is for Kylie at this moment," Hall said.

"We thank my team-mates for their love and understanding."

The Sea Eagles players will wear black armbands as a mark of respect.

I now have a real soft spot for Manly tonight. I can't think of anything much more tragic to happen to someone, and this is going to hurt all his teammates.

My thoughts and sympathies are with Glenn and Kylie.

+1 Coxy, just talked to you about this and it makes the Manly players job so much harder tonight this will add so much pressure and so much sadness to the playing group. For the sake of Glenn Hall regardless of the result I hope they give it their all for their mate tonight.

Damn. That is bloody awful.

Wow, that is really terrible news. My prayers and thoughts are with Glen and Kylie and their entire family.

Old Oztag team of mine had one of their teammates die of cancer. Just 34 years old. The funeral was the day of a semi. Everyone was pretty emotional apparently, but they played the game of their lives to win. So it can galvanise you.

Just depends how it affects Manly tonight.

I wish them well, I really do.

That is extremely sad news.

I was only just reading an article in the paper around twenty minutes ago about how he might have to fly back for the birth of his child and now this.

Terrible.

Very sad news. As nnn said, I also not long before this story came out was reading the one about him possibly missing the game if she went into labour.

I hope they put in a good show for him, but I still can't hope Manly win I'm afraid.

[icon_frown Very sad. Can't even begin to imagine how they are feeling. Such an awful tragedy.

Terrible, terrible news. I can't even imagine what it must be like. My thoughts are with them.

Wow, that's REALLY sad.

Hope Hall and his friends and family get through this. :-(

Made the right decision - exactly what I would have done.

I know. But... It's not really a decision is it. Your new born child dies, you're not going to choose football over your wife and family, ever.

I was shattered when I found out about this because Manly is actually my 2nd team.
