I hope Gillett never gets a go at 6 again. Does anyone remember what happened last time?

man. i have this feeling of impending doom... gillett will be named at 6 to accomodate glenn + lowrie in the backrow rotation with thaiday and parker.

The commentators in NZ were having a lovefest with Gillett but i honestly thought he was average and blown away by the other three backrowers.
Anyone else feel the same

yeah didnt find him impressive. he seems a bit clueless everytime he gets the ball.

I am 50/50 on Nikorima at 5/8 so don't have a problem with this decision. I think Kahu is the best choice this year and we need to get through until his return.
I have watched Nikorima come through the 20s and just don't think he is ready but in saying that thought he may have got a chance on the back of his nines performance.
Just wondering how you feel about Nikorima in first grade this early Big Pete?

I thought he performed well at the Auckland 9s and I can see why people are excited but I thought the format flattered him greatly. One of my enduring memories of the tournament was watching him run alongside Fifita instead of putting his body on the line, that isn't going to cut it at first grade and he's come up with similar defensive efforts in his time at the 20s.

At best, I believe he could be a handy X-Factor player to bring off the bench while either Strasser or Lowrie open, otherwise, he's just another Jared Kahu.

you might be right. i actually thought he was trying to stop fifita getting the ball to the winger as cover was coming across from the inside to get fifita

but yeah, i was/am certainly concerned that his defense may not be up to NRL (yet). i guess i was just really looking forward to see how he went with my own eyes against the big boys from NZ. (i was at the cowboys trial but it wasnt hte best viewing ground and with so many interchanges it was hard to make much of it at times)

i'll be perfectly happy if strasser is the 6

Agree with all this and strongly believe he could be the worst of all our young halves. I dont mean that in a bad way, i just think the others could be really good

I'd have a problem, Nikorima and Hunt deserve a chance to see what they can do in 80 minutes.

Reality is all of halves options are unproven. I can't see how Kahu can be the best man for the job when he has played **** all first grade and is an outside back anyway. The situation is dire. At least if we picked a young half we could cope that he will do some dumb things.

well, i think many of us were excited to see nikorima get a full trial, to see how he goes at least, after promising signs at the 9s.

and b) think many of us are all a little afraid that if he isnt 6, then it might be barba... gillett... lowrie.. lol

If Griffin picks anyone but a recognised 5/8 in the trial then he will get a personal email from myself. There is absolutely no benefit in naming an outside back or forward at 5/8. It won't work especially when we have half that is not up to first grade yet. Maybe if we had a DCE at half could you then possibly name a Gillett but even then it would be only through desperation.

He only has one option. Hunt/KN

Anything else will be disastrous.
