That article sys we are already talking with Petro and we will be trying to sign Hannant aswell. I dont think we can afford both of them. Id rather see us re-sign guys like lui, Gillet, Glen ect before we sign Hannant aswell. I know Hannant is good but he did leave the Broncos for more cash. Now he wants to leave the Bulldogs for even more cash.

If he's willing to negotiate a fair price, I'm happy to have Hannant. Ditto Civoniceva. Ditto Tronc (bear in mind Tronc is only signed to end of this season, so he's playing for a contract).

Frankly I wouldn't be bothered if it meant the Broncos had to offload Sims, Setu and one out of Dodds, Anderson and Te'o.

As I posted in the signings thread, I think if we get both Civo and Hannant, that Sims and Setu will be gonesky. It would not surprise me if the Club knows that Setu has already signed with the Roosters but it has not been announced yet (just speculation on my part).

I really wanted the Broncos to chase Tolman. It looks like there heart is set on Hannant and Civo now.

I really want Glenn, Te'o, Lui and Gillet all to stay.

Dodds, Sims, Maguire and Setu can all go likewise Anderson if it means having Lui in the side!

I wouldn't be too hasty to discard Dodds and McGuire. Both young forwards with massive potential.

In reality I doubt the Broncos will get both Hannant and Civoniceva, but it's a good move saying they're going for both. For a start it might encourage Hannant to reassess his expectations of salary. He couldn't possibly think he's more a marquee forward than Civo!

I hope we get neither. Civo after finishing in a coaching capacity would be nice but I have a real issue with the way Hannant is whoring himself, as good as he is Tronc will bring many of the same qualities at a fraction of the cost.

The thing that worries me about Hannant is his alledged asking price $400,000+ a year. That is a huge chunk of our salary cap and what worries me is when you have four or so players taking up most of your salary cap and one or two of them are injured at the same time we dont have any cash left to have any depth in key positions. I personally dont think Hannant is worth anywhere near Folau and Folau is only on $400,000 a year. Id rather us sign Petro and Tolman and if Tronc is going good by the end of this year then lets resign him aswell. A bit of depth in the fowards is what we need.

Just because he's asking for it doesn't mean he'll get it.

Just like anyone else going for a job and the employer asks your salary expectations. You can (and should) say something high, that you'd desire, but expect the employer to come down.

If they accept your first offer then you've obviously underpriced yourself, so oops! :P

Only props in my lifetime that would be worth that are Webcke, Lazarus, Civoniceva and Price. Maybe Harragon and Wiki too.

Because there's little depth in most positions. Therefore all clubs have a particular area of weakness they're willing to throw dollars at a player to fix.

Hence a prop can get close to $400K. A winger $450K. A halfback could even push $600K (realistically Thurston could get that from a club like the Sharks if they really wanted him).

Problem for those guys is that clubs who do have marquee players can't match that, so they're either stuck at whatever club they went to for the big payday, or they take a paycut to go elsewhere.

If we were one of the smaller teams that are not as rich and couldn't afford much more than what the salary cap currently is then we wouldn't be bashing it so hard. I know it's a pain for us because Brisbane can afford much more. But at least it keeps enough teams in the leage.

What's "enough teams"? Would anyone really care if there was only 14 or even 12? Would anyone other than their particular fans really care if Cronulla, Souths or Manly disappeared?

I sure as hell wouldn't.

I think we have enough teams now, 12 seems too low to me. It's more entertaining have more teams to compete against I think. Much more varied players and coach styles. More of a challenge, plus we have enough talent in Aus to fill all the positions in the teams.

on the subject of number of teams, i think 14 teams with a top 6 finals seems about right to me...also if you were to cut to teams they would need to be in the Sydney market (oops the thread has gotten of track again, sorry admins [icon_razz1 )

back on track i think the Signing of Tronc is a great addition ot our side. he was one of the better props in the NRL last year and is probably the leading prop ATM in the ESL.

personally i think we only need to sign one of Civo or Hannant, especially if Tronc goes really well for us for the rest of this season. I would prefer Civo over Hannant because i think he will help the development of our young forwards more than Hannant would IMO. ]
