Jack Howarth is set for a long NRL career, shame he's with the Storm

Yeah I have thought since 2019 Howarth and Piakura were the best next gen back rowers but Storm keep playing Howarth in the centres. They've both missed a lot of football last three years.

I don't like Howarth in the centres in ISC.

Another year or two and he might be too big for centre, he's already huge.

He wasn't the best on ground last night but from what I saw he's the most likely to go on and star in the NRL.

Yeah, I was disappointed as I expected Mozer to really get the forwards on the front foot but his service was pretty uninspired. I don’t recall him taking any scoots either. He really didn’t play to his strengths at all.
Other than the pile driver that put him in the bin, I thought he did his job professionally (though not much more).

I think a lot of Broncos fans only tuned into that game to see what all the hype is about, and were expecting him to single-handedly boss NSW out of the game. Instead what you got was a solid hooker's performance. His passing game is well and truly NRL standard, he just didn't run the line or make breaks the way you might've been expecting.

Would he be better than Turpin right now? I don't know. Maybe. Maybe not. Kevvie will have a feel for that.

I don't think he be overawed at NRL level, but I also don't think he'd bring anything right now we desperately need. Let's see him play more Cup before we get disappointed.

He was the Tigers, Queensland and Australian second rower in 2019 and since then the Storm have moved him to the Falcons and the centres.

His best football has been in the second row and I still don't understand their logic.

Tbh I thought his service was inconsistent. There were some crisp passes straight into the chest with minimal delay, others were at peoples heads. I thought the 2nd half Mozer was either really tired or was totally bamboozled and out of sorts.

Yeah seems weird, he definitely looks like a backrower, kinda similar to Angus Crighton

Yeah it's not the lack of breaks, I wasn't thinking he'd bust the markers three times. He's not that sort of hooker anyway.

But what I did notice was his lack of sync with his halves, his strength at Tweed and Souths has been his sense with his halves- Weaver, Gray and Wilson. He didn't have that at all, he looked unsure and clunky.

Which again is a hard rep skill to learn, but he did it two weeks ago when he came into Souths team on short notice on the Friday and made his debut on the Saturday. He had Wilison with him too so it should have been more flow than there was last night.

Regardless if he's better than Turpin right now (he's not IMO), playing another 2 years of QLD cup is going to be best for him. See how he goes midway through 2024...

This wasn’t my first time watching Mozer play. He was fairly poor by his standards in a number of areas. Serviceable is about right.

I think he showed his defence would struggle against NRL forwards. He struggled to hold his own defensively. He’s also usually pretty good at the Cam Smith style defending.

Think we should stop mentioning Mozer and Cam Smith is the same breath....fullstop.

Can't be good for the young bloke to have that expectation thrown on him......

Mozer is just starting out, he is inexperienced and last night seemingly frustrated. He did not set the world on fire but where it counts, you can see why he is so highly regarded. His service when fresh was beautiful and he is clearly a smart player, albeit arguable given his brain snap. He isn't ready yet but after a couple of preseasons, getting older and putting more muscle on, he won't be as gassed. The building blocks are what is exciting about him.

Cam Smith exploded on to the scene at 19ish and even then, he wasn't the Cam Smith of 29 then either.

I’m not comparing them. I’m referencing a style of defending in the middle. It’s not a comparison of ability.

It’s like saying a player has a Benji Marshall flick pass.

He'll be playing first grade next year. I'll bet my only pair of undies on it.

I'd use that description for a no look flick pass...rather than your standard run of the mill flick pass.

Just sayin.....

Cam Smith wasn't particularly great IMO until 2006 after Orford left Melbourne and Smith became the chief organiser. So around 22/23 years old? Since then the Broncos have tried to manufacture their own Smith, as has just about every other club in the game. No one has succeeded, so it's really best to just give up now and let them be themselves.

He was a slow starter (RE Cam) .......thats partly why no-one at Brisbane gave him a second thought when he first came knocking.
