NEWS Versatile Bird no lock to stay centre

Why does a poster's age matter?
It's a bit weird I think that he's so persistent on it tbh... the irony that he's calling me immature I'm sure is totally lost on him...

Why does a poster's age matter?

It has relevance as to the amount of credibility that can be given to his observations of what occurred at the establishment of the club and in the early 1990's. If the person was not born or was a toddler during that period, then perhaps it is open to question their opinion about those events.

So please... offer us a solution... paul green? He was taught by Bennett and outside of a last second premiership over us Bennett actually has a better record then him the past 3 years. And you do realise he won't bring Thurston with him? And the all time classic, Bellamy? His ENTIRE career he has had Cameron smith there. Granted, as I implied before talent is a mix of nurture and nature but bellamys record without smith is totally massively embarrassing (25% win ratio and 2/7 origin games). Bennett has a track record WITHOUT future immortals in his team (dragons 2010, nz and England world cups, Newcastle to the preliminaries). Bellamy lost a gf 40-0 without his on field coach.

So who? What's your solution? Do you want to coach us? Griffin again? This type of grass is always greener thinking is what got us in this mess in the first place. We will never win premierships like we used to but because we don't people think it's a sign of Bennett losing it? Compare his current record to any other coach with a comparable squad, he far exceeds them. Plus, he's the one who got us such a great record that we compare it too. The reason we will never have that many premierships as regularly is simple, professionalism! We led the way and now everyone has caught up. Premierships are going to be further between but we are going the right way about and putting ourselves in a good position year after year.

Stop listening to the Sydney media mate. They are also the ones who put brad Arthur, Brian smith, daniel Anderson, Ricky Stuart and Stephen Kearney as greater coaches then Bennett at certain times throughout his career. They have a LITTLE bit of an agenda I think, possibly...

Before we jump to solutions need to properly identify the problem. For me that is Bennett while an excellent manager of players may no longer be the best choice to innovate and adapt to the current ways and rules of play. He also tends to play favourites.

The longer term problem is succession planning as the priority is we don’t need another hook/henjak period. Rookie coaches after Bennett was a recipe for failure (doesn’t hurt Bennett though as made him look amazing by comparison to dirt).

The reality is Bennett has the job until he wants it or is able to do it barring five years sub eight finishes. But doesn’t mean he has to do the exact same job or have the exact same supports around him.

First question for me is how long does he plan on coaching or working in general. Also how realistic is it for him (depending on health, other aspirations, fatigue) to be a head coach in his 70s. I would imagine it’s an 80 hour a week job with massive stress. Would it be better to transition him to a Phil Gould style manager of football role? Would Wayne be ok with this? Could he work with someone in this role? If so who? Walter is natural choice but is still largely untested at NRL week to week. Cleary would have been fantastic but isn’t a Queenslander (not sure that matters) and was he burnt working with Gould?

If he plans on coaching for 5 or so years and doesn’t want a different role in the club then might be about getting some fresh assistants like the Ikins who would benefit from being mentored and tempered by his experience but could add flare and control a lot of attack. I agree with comment we need a true half coach unlike Alf and Walters our weekness is in classic skills that a Johns or such could bring.

Professionalism is an issue to bring the pack closer but the broncs should have so many advantages over the pack. Money for staff/facilities, TPAs, Brisbane prices on houses compared to Sydney, culture, a generation of Queensland kids (and overseas) who worship broncos coming up, opportunity to play in front of packed stadium regularly, Rep leg up playing for a strong club, legends like Locky and Alf and so forth. We have disadvantages but largely because we allow the NRL, refs and media to set the agenda. Why don’t we use some of that money and power to do some PR, hire some independent auditors to do a report on discrepancies in behaviour to some teams and start making it clear how much money fair treatment of the broncs is worth.

Your argument doesn’t why our production line has seemingly ground to a holt since 2008 under 20s. Our best players coming through in last few years TPJ, Roberts, Bird, Milf, Lodge fell into our lap or were bought (some thanks to Bennett to his credit).

As for Sydney media mate take it with a grain of salt, don’t even read or watch half that crap clearly classifiable as false news. Having an opinion different to yours doesn’t mean they are in the pocket of the great Sydney conspiracy.

As for my base premise it is Bennett has a lot of upsides but seeing a lot of downsides that need addressing if we are going to start winning premierships.

In what world?
I think Toovey was underrated by manly and very unlucky to lose his job after giving so much.
That said I wouldn't have him here. We have others with better pedigrees and a strong affilliation with the club and it's culture. Walters would be my first choice. He has humbled himself to offer his services an assistant coach after coaching Qld, superleague sides, and assisting both Bennet and Bellamy (the two best coaches in the nrl.

I love to watch NRL games, let’s see how much I get judged and how criticism I get.
