Was it really the Pies to blame?

My answer is no.

I think he inherited a roster on a swift decline. The halves pairing of Knik and Milford was winning some regular season games but it was toothless against the top tier sides of the era.

Bennett found some magical equilibrium of talent in that 2015 side along with getting them to work as a defensive juggernaut and tried milking it for all it was worth right up till the end of the ‘18 season. He made no improvements to a spine that was declining quite rapidly and left Seibold to come up with the changes. Seibold gambled on youth, moved on some players that did need moving on but it just didn’t come off, instead it all blew up in his face.

Interesting to see we are now getting Reynolds because Bennett doesn’t think the Rabbitohs should sign someone who is still a tier 1 halfback in the competition. Same way he thought we didn’t need a halfback when we had Milford/Knik/McCullough playing for us.
Bennett has no say on the Rabbitohs recruitment for 2022 and has been quite vocal about retaining Reynolds.

I agree the Broncos weren't ready for a new coach and the only coach who could make sense of the roster and get them up for the big occasions was Bennett. When they were the underdogs they tended to lift, when they were the favourites it got really ugly.

Like most teams that win the spoon, it's everything going wrong at once and coming to a head in a single season.

You can arguably go back to half way through 2016, then it's just things getting worse year on year while everyone is drunk behind the wheel.

We finished third in 2017.

Papering over the cracks, we weren't genuine contenders at all.

Disagree. Unfortunate to come up against the Storm in the prelim. Never going to win that one. 2018 we weren't too far off the top four.

The cracks were there, for sure. But we were finals contenders, just not GF winners. Bit of a stretch to say it was all down hill from mid 2016 for mine.

2017 was a case of other teams getting worse as opposed to the Broncos genuinely improving.

In 2016 they finished behind...

Cronulla - Was always going to be difficult to maintain their standards from 2016 where they had that incredible undefeated streak. The loss of Ennis and Barba knocked them down a peg.

Canberra - They finished on the wrong side of a lot of close games and like Cronulla failed to maintain their standard from the year before. They tried to play a power game only for the forwards to be found wanting and the halves exposed in defence.

North Queensland - Lost JT and Scott early in the season which should have ended their season early.

Brisbane were still a 'good' team but after being genuine premiership contenders Melbourne and Sydney both lapped them (and the rest of the competition).

**** no. The way he was treated was a complete joke. Instead of the players being held responsible for their shithouse performances the coach was made the scape goat.

Just and FYI. We are 16th on the ladder at the end of this round and looking good for a 2nd spoon.

The players apart from Haas just don’t try. They are shithouse and their attitudes completely suck. They believe too much about what they read in the courier mail instead of putting in on the field and actually making their fans and sponsors proud.

Our team is a joke. The players are a joke. The coach wasn’t the issue.

2 spoons in 2 years here we come

No we are still in 15th on +/-. The Dragons better score another few tries to keep it that way too.

Siebold broke what wasnt really broken, so yes his fault

And the elephant in the room has barely rated a mention. We’ve been shit since 2018 folks, and terrible decisions made before then. I am of course talking about Louise.

Our players just aren’t good enough or just aren’t ready for first grade. The writing was on the wall this year when we couldn’t beat a qcup side for the trials. We just don’t have the depth or experience to challenge the top sides. It’s the state of Qld rugby league as a whole right now.
