But how many of them would've been rep players anyway? most.

Kinda backs up what some of us have been saying. Also funny that the Knights still have more current rep players than the Broncos yet we see the "they have a horrible roster no wonder he can't win with them" excuse trotted out all the time.

As has been said many times, rep players = currently called upon in teams and not just çity/country bullshit. Just because you [;ayed in a rep team once doesn't mean you are currently a rep player.

I think my reasons for not wanting Bennett back are different to some others on here. and in the midst of my ranting and arguing with different people, I may not have articulated them properly. So here are my thoughts on the subject. I promise this will be my final say on the subject, after this I will live with the decision and move on.

1. WB has likely only 3 years left in his coaching career. After that we will need a new coach.

2. IMO, we would have been better off a coach that could help bring the club into the future and had long term potential. Whether that coach was Walters, Matterson, the Walker brothers, or some other coach I'm not aware of.

3. I still think Wayne Bennett could be an asset to the club in a director of coaching type role. Giving advice needed and helping plan and direct our future activities.

4. I am also concerned that he will bring certain Knights players with him that I don't want anywhere near the club. Namely Mason, Boyd, Scott etc.

5. I am concerned about our ability to move on from him. We struggled last time and I think we were just starting to come out the other side.

Oh and regardless of rep player numbers ... Our roster shits all over that of the Knights and Dragons ... especially next season.

I will now officially drop the subject

Wholeheartedly agree with every point there Foordy.

Though point 2 I think Hook could have been that coach.

Will also drop it and look forward to our success over the next 3 years (and hopefully further into the future)

I am scared he may being looking towards Kearney as long term coach and bennet keeps him as assistant and he takes over after bennet. They worked together with the kiwi side.

I doubt if any players from Newcastle will accompany Bennett to the Broncos. Well, by the that I mean first graders as he may have spotted some junior talent coming through their system. Perhaps he may bring someone like that but I'd say he will be happy with with what we have currently. Truthfully we have a very good side at the moment and I think most coaches would unload very few of the current crop. That said I have always argued we are at least one and possibly two experienced hard heads who strike a bit of fear into their opposites.

WB may have a look around to see if any other Qlders would like to come home and who also fit his requirements. What would be sensational though would be if Kennedy has woken from his slumber and combines with Garbutt in a big strong frontrow pairing for 2015. I just don't see where we would be lacking with that addition. I have high hopes now about 2015 but 2014 is not done with yet. The best things possible have fallen in our lap. We have a tough as shit run into the finals and should we excell through that will position us perfectly. Secondly, Griffin can now make any other changes he sees fit without worrying about the future and he's highly likely to retain Hoffman at fullback. Lastly, everyone knows they are either auditioning for a new team or fighting to keep alive their current position.

Good times ahead I think.

I have not read back through I will admit..

But what is the general consensus about WB's return?

Also, what are your thought on Hook becoming an assistant in Canberra? We already have the killer of clubs at the helm, will this make it slightly more bearable or just provide the stamp on the NRL's politely written letter of recommendation to relocate?

I ask this as I know very little from a fan's perspective about Hook.

The poll gives you a good indication I would think. Those of us who cared to vote would have a strong feeling either way I'd say. At the moment there are roughly twice as many in favour as those who wanted a different result.

Nearly everyone wanted hook sacked as head coach.

We are split down the middle about Bennetts return.

Hook would make a good assistant coach. He just fell short as head coach. But he is great as a youth coach and bringing players along to NRL quality but lacked the ability to take them that step further at this stage.

Thanks mate.

So, essentially he is a David Furner, but without his big brother to allow him to continue his inept behaviour for 6 season on top dollar?

Having someone who can pick and develop good juniors is great, getting him to overturn the destroyer of clubs incessant need to start bums every freaking game is a whole other concern. I spose time will tell.

Dark times ahead for my dear club is all I see. I struggle to watch games these days. I still do.. But there are never any expectations. That Tigers game just proved that Canberra are a NSW Cup level team masquerading as NRL quality.

Thank God for Le Tour.. This month would have been hell without it.

Walters says he hasn't talked to Bennett about being at the Broncos in 2015 yet, but it's his dream to one day work at the Broncos again.

Bad feeling about Walters. I've been trying to find out who the assistant coaches to the Origin team are are have been in recent years. Because I think this was Walters' first year in that role. I know there were way more deciding factors in the series than one assistant coach, but still. Also, has anyone been overly impressed with Newcastle's halves this year? Because he's their halves coach.

Time for a Walters thread methinks.

Bennett will have a succession plan.

He had one when he was with us before, but that was completely fucked up when he was forced out. I don't think Henjak and Griffin were ever supposed to be coach.

He'll have one again this time. Now it's time to do what should have been done in the first place.

Foordy, don't worry. The same mistake won't be made twice. Have a bit of faith..

Walters was assistant to Meninga last year as well and is reportedly the Meninga origin succession plan

The rep players argument is silly IMO. If we are judging a player's ability based on rep honours, then that would mean James McManus is a better player than Anthony Milford. And Willie Mason is better than Josh McGuire. Jack Reed >>>> Copley.

Can I have the story of Bennett's departure in 2008 as I can't remember the full details, from memory he was offered a contract by the Dragons and he wanted a new challenge and took it.

Walter will be there next year for sure. He was all over the place trying to avoid saying yes or no on the back page the other night. Certainty!

Most of, if not all had to with Bruno Cullen,
