Bennett was on the nose with Cullen after the disaster that was 2005, remember we had another "slump" after winning 10 straight. In 2006 it appeared Bennett was again denying "slump". Cullen started to panic, Wb put out feelers, Cullen then leapt to sign him up.....it wasn't Wb leaving first, a lot of people were calling for his head.

also we didn't make the finals WITH Locky, it's not a post Locky slide; it's a post Bennett slide.

Okay people, the discussion has been heated and there are obviously some pretty divided views here, but let's not carry on with personal attacks or this bullshit about supporting other clubs.

Notice it's the WB fans are the ones with the attacks, the anti WB are more civilised.

Bring on the dislike this post.

Sorry mate, you don't get to determine where my responsibilities start or end. You know where to discuss moderation if you want to do so. In the meanwhile, please keep the font normal, as the different sizes purpose is certainly not for people to type whole posts with massive font.

If your eye sight requires a need to increase your font size, I suggest you use your computer's OS and/or your screen resolution for that purpose.

Back to the topic... interestingly, you did not answer my question about the "unbiased" view that WB was in the process of being pushed, but please keep thinking that your glasses aren't coloured.

Regarding Griffin, your acknowledgement of him doesn't exactly rhyme with the "We were once great.......been six years since we were. Now we are also rans..." quote. WB may, and probably would have done slightly better than him under the same circumstances I mentioned above, but I very much doubt we would have been a powerhouse in 2012/2013, like you seem to imply.

I have followed this debate with much interest. I don't know how much weight can be given to your opinion re that we would not have been a powerhouse in 2012/13. I would agree but only based on the assumption that the two squads remained about the same. I have real doubt that Bennett would not have planned for life post Lockyer by having a marquee signing on the books to go somewhere near to filling his boots.

I don't know if WB's second coming is a good or bad thing, and at the end of the day, our opinions matter nought. I will simply wait and watch with interest as to where it all goes. I also had not fully given up on Griffin. I remember that it took Bennett and Bellamy similar amounts of time to win their first titles (4-5 years) and both of them had better squads than Griffin. He may have come good, and the main thing is that it seems that the majority of the squad loved playing for him. We will never know now, unless he pulls out a miracle this season.

My consistent view has been that the Club has failed miserably in succession planning for life post WB (first time around) and life post Lockyer and that has placed us where we are.

Wayne's first ever appearance on The Footy Show.

Gives it to Big Marn and Beau. Didn't catch this live but it's interesting.

If this was the early to mid 00s, Griffin might have gone OK too, but he just doesn't seem to be able to adapt his style to the modern game particularly well. Hence, Griffinball.

Hey guys, I've been following BHQ for a long and reading through everyone's posts daily sometimes gets me through the day!! I, like many other supporters placed my faith in Hook because he was our coach. To me he coached with confidence( good decisions or bad decisions) he always seemed confident, which I liked. Any experiment deserves time, I hated the Hoffman at 5/8 experiment and yelled and screamed at the TV weekly... But if ol Hoggman had of started playing out of his skin and surprised everyone, Hook would have been a genius... But we all know how that went. I think the way that some of you are backing Hook is typical of a Broncos supporter( we look out for our own) but the way the last few seasons have played out I for one needed to see some improvement, which we've seen glimpses of but let's face it ,our current roster should be getting better results... We have the team but for some reason something isn't clicking?? Some weeks I've wondered if the boys actually train together?? Whatever happened behind closed doors has happened Hook has a few weeks to go and WB is back next season. I say lets GO, I can see good things coming and as much as I respected our current coach the whole joint needed a shake up and regroup to move forward. Exciting times ahead in my opinion.

You could say the same thing if he put Hannant at fullback or something. These things you just generally know won't work out.

2011 was the best regular season since 2000 and one of the best in the club's history.

Some post-Bennett slump.

With Bennett, we make it to the second week of the finals.

Minus Bennett, third week.

2010 went down the tubes but if you run the risk, put all the stock into a young brigade of players, lose your star back before a ball is even kick then lose the captain and playmaker right at the business end of the season when the club had one foot in the finals and of course they're going to sink.

No surprise that both seasons basically ended when Lockyer went down.

No surprise that 2009 ended when Wallace went down.

I could tell you who went down in 2008, but some may consider it TMI if you know what I'm talking about.

Welcome stix, great. First post.

Seeing as you have been reading I'm sure you know I am in the pro WB and I feel you have summed the situation up well.

I too backed griffin strongly right up until about 6 months ago, when it became obvious we weren't going to improve under. For all his good points, of which he has many, he has a complete inability to change things, and if he does it is always too late.

Like I said welcome and I hope you keep posting :)

Does anyone think Langer might leave the club after that article a few years back when Bennett pretty much said he wasn't a good captain?

Griffin surely has to go this week. That effort was abhorrent against Melbourne.
