MELTDOWN Wayne Bennett - Moves to Souths

Should Wayne Bennett's Contract be Extended?

I'd like to hear from those who wanted WB to stay about who you think would have been a good fit to replace him if he got his wish to extend to the end of 2020.
With the top coaches tied up by then who would you go after?
Most will say JD because Wayne annointed him but Wayne annointed Price and Henjack so ....
What would you have done differently if you were responsible for the Broncos future.?

Surely after all this you can't say anyone is tied up ! Probably Bellamy and Hodges as assistant.

We finally have a coach that is going to say it how it is.

No hidden agendas, no hidden messages in what he says.. no bullshit

Seibold is as mentally stable as they come and I love it.

You go girlfriend!

I wanted Wayne to stay. But out of reverence more so than our teams performance. I feel that is also the Walters argument for me, I respect the man more so than I think he would be althe right coach. Seibs had souths playing a sharp and exciting brand of footy and when i heard he was being connected to us i couldn't believe it. I feel Seibs is exactly what we need, fresh eyes, fresh ideas. We did the hire from within and all we got was poor mans bennet ball. Time will tell if Siebs has what it takes but i am backing him all the way.

Yeah but you pumped up both their tyres when they were appointed and then sunk the boot in when you realized they weren't quite what you thought. You'll do the same this time.

Cool story bro.

If nothing else, it was refreshing to hear in the press conference that the coach is talking about tailoring a game plan to suit the strengths of the playing group. I think this was done to some extent in 2015, but pretty much other than that it has been Griffin/Bennett ball. I don't know whether appointing Seibold is going to be a master stroke or an abject failure, or indeed somewhere in between, but in many ways I will be happy if we start playing a more open and entertaining style of football.

You go girlfriend!

Seriously, do we need another off-season of this bullshit?

Can we just spare everyone please and just talk about the footy? I really don't want an off-season like when Bennett came back with the snide remarks between the pro and anti Bennett camps and overall childish bullshit.

Thought Seibs handled himself pretty well for the first interview..spoke briefly about his basic philosophies around coaching and general game plans.

Not bagging Wayne out but was a refreshing change to see some positivity for a change when our coach is in front of a packed media room.

Yes it is early days, but no hint of sarcasm, derision or ‘us against the world’ type of mentality. We’ll see how it all pans out but good early signs and am excited for the months/season ahead.

Hey mate,

To be a bit clearer, I'm not saying this whole thing hasn't disappointed me - I am disappointed in Wayne if he has orchestrated this whole thing

I'm just saying 2 things;

1 - we have way less than 100% of the facts so we really don't know with any certainty

2 - even if he did it, how can I be sure I wouldn't have done the same?

Yeah if he did it I'll have lost respect for him, but I'm not gonna burn him at the stake, because whose to say I would have done better?
All good, we’re allowed to have different views.

It’s certainly very understanding of you. I can safely say that I’m not as understanding of this mess. This whole thing could have been handled so much better by everyone involved.

So based on that, I guess I’m not willing to give Bennett a free pass. Same applies to all involved though to be honest.

What changed was the evidence that he had been actively working with Souths to try and take our best players, plan there pre-season and obviously give them enough indication that he would be there Monday that they kicked their current coach out of his office.

Bennett tried to play everyone off for suckers and got caught out big time, leading to him getting the boot and losing all my respect (not that he would give a **** about that).

I don't believe he was ever working on taking any of our players, but yes, it does seem like he was making plans for the pre-season etc. But like I said, both teams were actively working on the terms for an immediate switch.

Which coach jumped first though? I thought it was reported quite early on that Seibold had been communicating with the Broncos in regards to prep, could that have forced Wayne's hand to believe that the switch was imminent, which is why Wayne did the same? Or did Wayne's tinkering force Seibold?

Bennett did get caught out about it - his wording was that he never officially declared that he was swapping, but it seems he said a lot of stuff unofficially. Seibold was just lucky in that he was never asked by the media, or if he was, it wasn't reported.

Nice sidestep . Bellamy had rejected us and there was no one else available .
Kevvie has shit the bed at every interview and JD is unexposed as an NRL head coach .
So how would you have gone about it?
Real world solution not your wish list.
What would you have done differently?

I think the club did the right thing identifying and signing AS even though it turned into a mess.

Totally agree. Bellamy was the man but he is talking of retirement. If (and I don’t think it’s a big if) Seibold turns out to be the new whiz-kid, it’ll be a masterstroke.

That wasn't a sidestep! Bellamy without his beloved Smith could easily be a chance. And if you do believe some of what's been said, AS actually wanted to sign a 2 yr extension which is what Wayne wanted also. And like I said, contracts mean dick at the end of the day and considering Brisbane was always a destination AS wanted land. So how's that for real world, meet your approval?

Huh? no. We asked Bellamy, he said no.

I'm not just asking you Pagey and not looking for an argument.

Those who have been critical of the outcome here must surely have their own solution. If you were White and Bellamy rejected your offer ( real world ) how would you have proceeded to ensure the Broncos had the coach needed to lead us beyond Wayne .

So it's mid 2018 Bellamy has just told you to GFY, now you need a coach. Wayne wants to stay for 2 more years so how do you go about it differently to what the club did.

Do you give Wayne what he wants ( short term solution, unknown who is available for 2021 and the coach is calling the shots for the club ) or do you look at the coaches available and try and sign who you think is the best available?
If it's the second option then who would you have gone after.?

Ah ok , I assumed that Bennett for 2 more years was a given then pursue Bellamy or if seibold was doing well at souths. Seibold said himself he was ok with an extension at souths but the Broncos job was on the table so he took it, but like I said a return to QLD and especially the Broncos was always on his list.

I hear Griffin had a dream about rocking up for the coaching role prior to signing Seibold and White offered him the gig.

Griffin: Mr White I was just going through your garbage and I couldn't help overhearing you needed a coach for 2020 and beyond. Of course being a highly skilled coach my bill is 1.5 million a season

White: We pay $8 a season and you can have two bronco themed water bottles.

Griffin: Ok but I get to have Henjak as my assistant coach

White: Done *walks away with disinterest*

Griffin: Still got it!
