Re: Wayne Bennett back at the Broncos?

It has been speculated in Brisbane that Bennett would install his son-in-law, Ben Ikin, as club CEO, although this was not raised with the board.

:| :| :|

So it begins.

Re: Wayne Bennett back at the Broncos?

Bahahaha, Ikin CEO.

Someone please just kill me now... :shot:

The article said it was speculation that Ikin might be made CEO, in other words it won't be happening. Really glad Wayne is coming home, can't wait for next season :)

While the article points to personnel changes, more so in coaching structure (Kearney to go? Even after 08 WC win?) and probable CEO/board members, I just don't want our team infiltrated with 'Wayne's Boys', notably Boyd, Smith and Scott. Jeremy Smith and Beau Scott apparently can't follow next year but I don't want them if they're still around come '16. Cuthbertson is another too (off-contract this year. In saying that the dude always turns up against us). Wouldn't be against Gagai coming back though if Wayne can get him after next year and our back line has taken a hit

The change off the field will be enough.

There's absolutely no way in hell that Wayne will bring a bunch of nuffies with him, he'll be bringing people that he knows are the right fit to win a premiership, because that's why he's coming home for the last few years of his career, to win another one.

The only player I'd even take from Knights is Gagai, and I don't think we have anywhere to play him until Hodges retires... maybe we could play him on the wing until that stage.. dunno.

That seemed like the biggest speculation article ever. Speculating on some bullshit points he has clearly made up.

So we all hate griffin for his bad team selections and his horrible game plans. Now we are getting bennett back, master of the shit team selections (stagg at centre, stagg at 6... actually, stagg anywhere come to think of it) and even more boring game plans and you guys are happy about this?

We need to move forward from Bennett instead of dwelling on the past. He was once a great coach, but his pathetic years at newcastle have shown he is passed it. They have a great team on paper, yet they are spoon contenders.

Theres an age old saying
What's the best way to get over an ex?

The answer is definitely not try to sleep with them again

But we are meant to forget the Dragons?

To suggest that the only factor in Newcastle is the coach is a bit of a stretch. Not only do they have a CEO who is seemingly absolutely useless, but it's been pretty tough financially down there with Tinkler being an absolute sped.

Players, we might not be able to pay you, but we still want the best from you, ok?

We have struggled to replace bennett since he left, and i feel like we are finally beginning to "get over" the whole bennett era with some really great talent coming thru, and now we are going to bring him back, so he can play players out of position, have a boring as **** game plan and put our off field development back to square one. Once he leaves again we will be fucked, like last time he left.

No coach can ever come to the broncos without being compared to bennett, and just as we were finally losing that stigma, we will just refresh it now

To mine, re-instating Bennett is an absolute confirmation that the Broncos have failed in trying to be successful without him, and hence can never be successful without him.

After the 65 year old decides that he wants to enjoy a well deserved retirement, where to from there?

Do we concede that the Broncos = Bennett, or continue as we have with relative (to most other NRL clubs) success in the past 6 years building towards something else (i.e. 2015 - and potentially a golden age for many years after - with the Dally M halfback of the year, the most promising rookie in the game at 6 and the incumbent to Cameron Smith's 9 jersey steering the club around?).

I agree Griffin hasn't got the players running at 100%, but Bennett is the past. McGuire, Robinson, Hasler. These guys are the new breed.

Bennett may or may not bring short term success.

But he is definitely not the right man for the longevity of the club.

Well said.

Well I'll take the short term success while the figure out the longevity of the club

Your welcome to continue the years of mediocrity.

Yet you'll be the first one to whinge and cry when he leaves and we return to the bottom of the ladder and dont look like moving for half a decade

Thats the thing the Bronco board have shown in the past, that they wait until the last minute to figure out how to replace him... and i fear they will do the same again, not realizing he has only a short time left as a coach

Will I? I'm glad that you know me so well, better than I know myself apparently.
