Who comes in for Copley?

Lachlan Maranta I think would get a wing spot this year after some impressive performances last year. The other wing spot would be between Kemp and Hoffman, but i've been hearing that Kemp is regaining confidence and has been playing well in the trial matches. Just watched his highlights video on utube and i think deserves another chance. If I had to pick the backline this is what it would be

1: Norman
2: Kemp
3: Reed
4: Hodges
5: Maranta
6: Prince
7: Wallace

In regards to Maranta, i don't see how a handful of first grade games where he doesn't do anything terrible or spectacular makes his selection 'deserved'. He is a solid first grade capable back but he is not the spark we are missing imo.

So the 3 q cup guys that have proven absolutely nothing, and kahu who all we really know is how much promise he has; deserve selection more???

... Yeah that makes sense, totally agree

I'd have to say I expect our wingers to be Maranta and Kemp to start the year unless Hook wants to put Norman at fullback. I think Kahu needs to play a bit more footy before he gets a crack. He has gad 2 years off basically.

I believe if we get a decent left centre then Hoffman at fullback, Kemp & Maranta on the wings become less of a problem. I was hoping Copley would take left centre this year but now I have a feeling if Kahu is not ready then we will have serious problems scoring points with Reed in the centres

That's already more than Norman has done lately, and you seem to be a fan of him.

My point is that none of them 'deserve' selection.

Oh so unless your suggestion is that we play with only 12 on the field, your problem is with someone's use of vocabulary even though there point and intention was very clear, well done!

It's funny how shit our left side attack has become. In the days gone past it was the only move we had -- Lockyer to Hunt to left winger. Hell, Tame Tupou even got a dozen tries from it one year.

Perhaps funny isn't the right word -- more like sad. I miss being able to blindly back our left winger to score first :(

Well our whole attack has gone to crap. It is only Hodges who looks like putting on a try.

What part of what i am saying is tripping you up? There is a view based on the 7 games he played last season that Maranta deserves to be selected ahead of the others. IMO 7 games last season doesn't make anyone an automatic selection and he will have to fight for a spot just like the other contenders, thats why we have trials. If he is selected come round one he will have deserved it. My comprehension isn't the problem if you say deserves but you mean something different. Not sure why your getting so precious about it.

Well its pretty sad when a secondrower is your most valuable tryscorer from the previous season and thats no disrespect to Glenn I think its fantastic his got the ability to score tries, but we really do need to see our backs higher in our tally, thats certainly an area I hope Prince and Kemp can help us with.

Well I think the fact that our kicking game showed no creativity had a lot to with that. Prince should help with that. Should see more kicks going through early for our wingers and fullback.

Yeah thats certainly something I want to see from Prince this season, if he can get our kicking game back in order that will help, but its not just that either, I tend to think we struggled to mount an effective attack once on their tryline area, sure we had no problems getting into attack range but once there we looked lost so its not just our kicking game that needs to improve but we need more depth in our line too, Prince can help there but we need our players to have more depth in attack.

Norman and Hoffman are better in the 17 than having one of them and either Kemp or Maranta.

Norman can't play wing so the answer looks pretty simple.

If Kemp got a run, his first hiccup and he'll be dropped (and hung out to dry by BHQ).

I've seen enough from Kemp and Maranta to know they aren't going to make too much of a difference. So I hope like hell that either Kahu or Berryman are the real deal.
