Which one are you picking?
Reynolds is neither Maori or IndigenousI said Gamble our of respect for what he did last year. He deserves the chance to own it but in saying that the club will want to avoid what happened last year with all the changes. So it will come down to whoever plays the best in the trials and gets the nod from Reyno.
I can see Reyno playing with any of Gamble, Walters or Kelly and including TMM once he finds his feet. I think Mam will get a chance in the year also. But if I was going to pick purely based on who will fit with Reyno the most, it would be Kelly and TMM (fully fit). I just haven't seen enough of Walters and obviously Mam.
Kelly is playing this weekend in the All Stars match at 14. Is Reyno retired from rep footy or was he not released? It will be good to see how Kelly is looking now he has made the full transition back into top grade and should be physically ready now.
And Tyrone Roberts running around with an affiliate in qcup as a third back up halfback... or maybe even 4th because Gamble wore the 7 a fair bit last year. It's amazing that we have 4, and potentially a 5th, legit first grade options for the #6. I'm still sceptical of Gamble's ceiling only because it took him this long to get a shot in first grade, but his competitiveness and energy is unmatched. Kelly is the most established of the first graders and has the highest ceiling, while TMM had proven himself before injury. Walters and Mam I have no idea about, I'd consider Walters a genuine option now simply because of media reports, while Mam is too young to know yet.
Even better is that Kelly played most of his football for the Titans at halfback, so even if (touch wood) Reynolds gets injured and is out for a few weeks we have the depth to cover him short term. I won't pretend we won't lose a lot, but for a couple of weeks we could hopefully push through thanks to genuine depth.
I can’t stand the bloke and I think he is overrated (or maybe he is made to look a lot better because of who he has around him), but Cody Walker took forever to get a run in first grade too. It's amazing that we have 4, and potentially a 5th, legit first grade options for the #6. Re the Gamble point, for the most part, i think it is fair enough, but there are outliers such as Cody Walker who debuted at 26 and is now arguably the best in the comp. Sometime people just need a shot and to have people believe in them and it makes all the difference. It's amazing that we have 4, and potentially a 5th, legit first grade options for the #6. Kelly, just. I think he is a bit flashier which might help out Reyno a bit. Gamble would be a good bit of mongrel though.
I have a nightmare that Reynolds is gonna do an ACL before the season starts. But I think that's just the fatalist Bronco in me.
